As you can see, the indoor unit is mounted near the ceiling. mini split in home mini split home stock Inside the unit is a fan and a set of self-adjusting louvers. The louvers can be configured by the remote control to sweep back and forth and up and down, or point the cool air in a specific direction or directions. The louver directions are easily set with the remote control. We love our mini-splits because they are quieter than the industrial-strength fans we used to have, and they provide near instantaneous cooling. When the unit is off, the louvers close, making the unit look even sleeker. In this photo, the louvers are closed almost all the way: indoor unit closed The indoor unit is connected to the outdoor unit by two insulated refrigerant pipes and a power line. We only have to drill a 3″ hole through the wall to run the pipes and wire. And, of course, the hole is behind the indoor unit and made weather tight from the outside.

Thanks everyone! Yeah, I've got the 3/8" nap rollers, as recommended by Faron and others on other threads in the forum. (I do like to research ahead of time, and the wealth of info and insight on this forum is awesome!) And thanks paintguy for the background reasons why others mention the W/M letter patterns and what they are ultimately *for* (getting an even spread). I guess I'm one of those types of people who learn best and avoid mistakes when I have some understanding of the why. Like why do recipes say to add salt to the boiling pasta water--I end up wondering 'does it matter if I leave it out?' :-) Faron, your comment about the slanted letter 'N' was great! It made me feel so much better because when I practicing, the W pattern just did not come naturally to me. Now I have a better idea of what to aim for. Thanks again everyone!

Thanks all for the honest advice. The furniture on the left is small china cabinet with our crystal barware on display. I don't have to keep it here, but I'm not sure there's another great place for it in the house. Behind that there's a doorway to the kitchen + breakfast nook. I'd hate to redo the drapes since we just got them and they were pricey. They are pinch pleated dupoini, so while not heavy, they are not quite as casual as they appear in the photo (although they really need a good press still). We did think about going taller with them, but got talked out of it at the store, since they said that raising the hardware too far above the window would put it in no man's land--just kind of floating disconnected from the window. I hadn't thought about painting the angled portion of the walls all the way to the ceiling. We've kind of been treating it as a giant tray ceiling and considered that angled part the ceiling. Maybe extending the painted part would help bring the ceiling down a bit? I also like the idea of more/larger art on wall for texture. aktillery--I like the light you posted. Do you know who makes it?

Hi Mizsusan...love the fan/light in your room. Really I don't get why so many people dislike ceiling fans the way they do. We install them in our bdrms in every house we've lived in. We also have a sofa like yours with the chaise on one end & the "cuddle seat" on the other end. I sit on the chaise end ( DH uses his recliner) and have noticed no one will sit on the cuddle end of the sofa which feels and probably looks kinda silly. I have considered getting an ottoman made to match but actually hate to put out the money for one and was wondering if this has been an issue you have also encountered?
