I am fixing myself some cream of potato soup with rivels. That just sounded good to me on a rainy day. How about you are you cooking or baking anything today?

Eating some stewed tomatoes, made with the last of a friend's garden and a slice of bread.

Have a shank ham on the burner to simmer some of the salt out of it. Will bake it this afternoon. Fresh pineapple, garden green beans & garlic smashed or sweet potatoes are in the plan.

Well, breakfast was a slice of my homemade pineapple cheesecake, (balanced, of course; graham crackers are whole grain, cream cheese is a protein, and pineapple filling is fruit, right?) so for lunch I decided to eat some leftover asparagus with no dressing, and a hard-boiled egg. I'm really a happy camper, that cheese cake was so delicious and long over-due as a treat for me. Tonight I'll make some low-fat cream of asparagus soup from the peeled and cooked stems, made richer with leftover mashed potatoes and some powdered milk. Although it seems like a forgiving dough - I can taste that I cheated on the overnight ferment. Sorry your casserole dishes aren't big enough. I bake in a toaster oven so when my bread rises it burns on top. Another reason P a L'A is good - it spreads out more than up. I brush the bread with some slightly salty water right before it goes in the oven. But I lose that lovely floury rustic surface. Do you have a pizza stone? That helped me get a better crust back when I last had an oven - now I use it in my grill to make pitas. Also I read somewhere or another about using a SS restaurant dish lid as a cloche though I've never seen one large enough. I am currently jealously watching a neighbor build a stone wood-fired bread oven by his pond - the ultimate bread oven. He says he will advise me when I am ready to build one - and I definitely do not lack for rocks. However right now my 'yard' is festooned with logs, brush and firewood piles. Hopefully in the near future the logs will become a woodshed and I can move the firewood inside. Then maybe a bread oven - which will entail moving rocks. I'm tired just thinking about it all. Making some tea and toast and taking a nap.

Delighted to see this thread is still going. I haven't always achieved my '1 new recipe a week' resolution, but must admit, some weeks there are two or three new ones tried. kitten1313 - popovers for beakfast? We always had with a potroast or some such (lots of gravy). Sounds good! Eam44 - have I missed your remodel? Pictures or a link to your post please. robotropolis - Oh my those look wonderful. May I please come to your next event (Northern MA, willing to travel....). Linelle - I haven't seen that recipe, will have to look for it; the piped potatoes look very pretty. I made a modified shepherd's pie last week from Joy of Cooking which we all loved. Tripled the veggies, added a can of diced tomatoes and defrosted hamburger meat from the freezer. F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S - to the extent of, both DH and I called each other at the same time the next day (probably around 11:30 AM) while eating leftovers for lunch to rave. Chiefneil - recipe or link to? Anything involving beef marrow is sure to be yummy :) Next up on my KAW 2014 - planning my 50th at the end of May, at the house. DH wanted to plan a party elsewhere but I balked. My plan (from this lofty distance of 24 days away) is to make 5 or 6 great cakes as well as various apps to be reheated and passed around (by hopefully hired college help). Easy-peasy, no?

Aw Nancy So sorry about your Dad. Hope your day was full of good memories.No the people do not pull over here for funeral processions. They do allow them to keep together when crossing intersections and the processions usually have a sheriff escort to direct traffic. My husband and I were the cemetery sextons for 8 years and I continued to do the secretary and arrangements for another 3 years. We did so many burials. Each one was different. I always thought to write a book but then I never could bring myself to write about burying my friends. Even though some of the happenings were quite comical. Even at such sad times. Believe me I mean no disrespect. No coffee for me tonight I MUST sleep soon. I am pooped out. Maybe after my meeting tomorrow. Like Steph I have an old percolator up in my loft. I keep wanting to bring it back into the kitchen I can not bear to get rid of it but we use the BUN coffee maker now. There just is some thing special about listening to the perks and the delicious smell. Always seems to smell better perked then dripped. Chicken noodle soup. I made it a few weeks ago and cut down the liquid so it's almost like a casserole type of thing!

I have pizza dough in the fridge that I made a couple of days ago, and so I will be making one pizza and one stromboli. I also have some leftover grilled tuna from last night, and I will be making a tuna salad with that, possibly a Salade Niçoise, or some variation of that. I do have Niçoise olives, and I cooked some green beans last night to have with the tuna. I would not be cooking the pizza and stromboli if I had not already made the pizza dough, but I went shopping yesterday (for my senior discount at Bristol Farms) and could not resist the tuna. The tuna was from Fiji, where I will be going this winter, and so I wanted to get a previous of Fijian food.

I roasted a chicken yesterday so today I'm using the leftovers for soup. I roast it with lots of herbs on a bed of white and wild rice with some sherry to keep it from sticking so that's all going in.

Not sure, but it's very dark and rainy here... at the moment I'm thinking about blueberry-yogurt pancakes and fried eggs. :)

I was going to be making quiches, but my whole house smells of the fires which aren't anywhere near here except as the wind blows. I have some shaved beef, so I think I'll grill it with barbecue sauce and epazote. That should pair well with the smoke. ;)

I've been canning "unstuffed cabbage rolls", and we had what didn't fit in jars for supper, along with homemade bread.

So, I suppose I'd better shuffle off and post my pictures on "What's For Dinner", since I haven't done that yet.

Picked up a couple eggplants at the farmers' market. Think I'll make eggplant gratin and haricot verts with roasted pecans.

Currently snacking on sweet potato chips (But I always keep these around to satisfy my sweet/salty/crunchy cravings).

On the table tonight, Cuban pork roast with the usual suspects.

Today, I am making Unstuffed Cabbage Roll Soup. The cabbage roll thread intrigued me; I've never made nor eaten cabbage rolls. Wasn't up to that amount of work for something that I've never tried so thought I would take a shortcut with the soup.
