What Would You Do With This Wire Thingy?
Comments (22)I don't know what it was and I don't know what you would do with it, but I would love to have it. I like the lines, they are simple but sweet and graceful. I would leave it pretty much as it is but I might paint it a light blue or lavender. On each leg I would plant one of the small/short Clematis vines. In the top where there is a tear drop, I would try to find one of those cut glass multifacteted thingys that you sometimes see in the malls. Teardrop shaped if I could find one, if not then a sphere suspended in the middle of the teardrop. Then I would probably try to keep the Clematis trimmed just below that so the cut glass thingy could be seen. If you could figure a way to suspend a blue bowl in the top rung you could use it as a bird bath until the Clematis got established....See MoreDo you use the word spendy?
Comments (61)Funny you mention that-I recently used it when describing something on the high priced side. It's an indulgence thing, rather than something prohibitively expensive. "A soy latte at Starbucks is more spendy than Dutch Bros, but I prefer the Starbucks lattes". I had recently read that it was most common in the PNW. I can't remember not hearing the term, but I've been an Oregonian now longer than I was a Californian. I don't think I've ever referred to something as 'pricey'. It would either be expensive or spendy....See MoreWhat do you say? How do you find words?
Comments (38)This is the fifth time in my social/family circle that I have heard of someone being killed by a close family member. It is more common than people think. In all of the cases I am referencing, the woman and in some cases children, were killed by the father/husband/boyfriend. Getting over it will be a long process. I would advise taking a tip from the "When Bad Things Happen to Good People" school of thought. One will never be able to figure out the "why" or get over the shock and horror and grief. But one must move forward. Important to move forward in honor of those we have lost. This is what they would want for us and from us. Just be there for them consistently, let them talk about it without trying to make it less or make it go away, but also encourage positive actions in honor of those who are lost. Perhaps some type of memorial. In several of the cases I know where someone was killed, the community has established scholarship and violence prevention programs in their honor. Perhaps there is one already going on in your community to which you could donate in honor of the family....See MoreWhat words or phrases do you wish you’d never hear again….
Comments (137)I can see saying "That's a great question" when talking to a group of people, some of whom may have good questions and some of whom may not, but when it is a one-on-one interview, it sounds like stalling and also sounds insincere. In a one-on-one interview, it sounds to me like saying "You've asked a question for which I do not have a good answer." The point is that when it is overused, it loses meaning or sincerity. I think "no problem" in response to "thank you" is possibly a translation of "de nada" from Spanish. People sometimes say "no problema" in Spanish in response to someone saying that they are sorry. I really, really hate hearing people say "You're welcome" when no one has thanked them. If anyone did that to me, I would say, "I'm not thanking you and have no intention of doing so." In Russian, the word for "please" (пожалуйста) is the same word for "you're welcome." That way one could not say "you're welcome" in Russian before being thanked, which is helpful. Does the "C" word rhyme with "cap" but with an "R" in it? That would perhaps describe what goes into a fanny pack....See MoreElizabeth
