Susie, you sure have some cool things! I don't know if I'm stuck on lamps or what ... but it would make a cool chandelier depending upon how heavy it is. Otherwise, I think it would be pretty over a small rosebush or over a vine. Or if you have a cool bird garden ornament, it would make an excellent cage to put over it.

I'd go with the artificial bird and vine.

You could make a bird feeder out oof it. If you could find sometjhing to put inside the top, like a bowl or something and then a plate in the bottom for the seed.

I'm thinking that it looks about the right size to be a hanger for a fern! You could put it in your new gazebo! Whatever it is, I love it! It could also be a trellis for a climbing vine or the outer edge for a tiny fairy/gnome type garden or it could be a gazebo itself for the same type miniature garden....Let us see what you come up with! You always have such great stuff!

If I had it it, I would probably make something from cobalt blue glass and hang from the pointy part inside the top.

Thank you for your responses!!!! First thing is to paint it a POPPING color. Love the chandi idea (I'm a little blingy too). Love the hanging idea. Love the plant idea and the faux birds (I have two small iron birds). LOVE ALL THE IDEAS!!!!!!!! See, that is why it is still naked and alone in the garage. The possibilities are so many.

Personally, I would remove the rust, paint it flat enamel black and add a 2nd plate as a 'shelf' somehow and put geranimum's or something like that on them - or if it was mine, a turtle or two would find a nesting ground and wouldn't care about naked! Looks like it might also hold a significant tomato plant.

I too like the wind chime concept, though if you get winds like we have had this winter, you might want to make them out of foam or something to keep the neighbors off your back!

Great idea. How though would I suspend the plastic mosaic ball? Would the glass mosaic plate alone counter it's weight on the bottom? Structurally if the metal legs were cut it will loose some integrity. Reattaching them to keep their tensil strength would require welding and some additional reinforcement. Drilling the holes through the glass plate and sliding that on would help to stabilize the piece though. You definately have got my mind clicking.

Now when are you going to share what software program you use to create your fabulouso illusions?????

I think I would hang it upside down and use it as a planter for a cascading plant. Or hang it upside down, put a plate/tray in it and use it as a hanging bird feeder.
If it was a planter I would hang something from the handle, which will be upside down. Maybe hang sparkly things, chandie dangles perhaps, from the curled feet which will also be on top.

I like to flip things over and try to use them upside down.

I don't know what it was and I don't know what you would do with it, but I would love to have it.

I like the lines, they are simple but sweet and graceful. I would leave it pretty much as it is but I might paint it a light blue or lavender. On each leg I would plant one of the small/short Clematis vines. In the top where there is a tear drop, I would try to find one of those cut glass multifacteted thingys that you sometimes see in the malls. Teardrop shaped if I could find one, if not then a sphere suspended in the middle of the teardrop. Then I would probably try to keep the Clematis trimmed just below that so the cut glass thingy could be seen.

If you could figure a way to suspend a blue bowl in the top rung you could use it as a bird bath until the Clematis got established.

I'm a windchime nut -- I'd be hanging strands of beads all over it and hang it from a tree branch.

Frankly, I think you can not do anything with it.....so box it and send it to me...I want it. LOL. Really, anything you do to it will be perfect cause it is a sweet piece.

It is a cover for a plant, as in one that goes into the middle of a pathway and you do not want it hangin into the path. I have seen pics of them in English or Victorian gardens.

The legs will be strong if you just put a little epoxy putty where they touch the plate.
Looks like the upper cage has a loop for you to hang the ball.

I use many graphic programs to do what I did.

love the windchime idea! When I first saw the picture, though, I thought that it would be cool to put over a particular "smallish" plant that you really want to stand out, a gorgeous colored something that you want to focus attention on.
I can also see it wrapped in wire with beads all over it, maybe with strings of small mirrors hanging inside and hanging from a trellis or tree
It's an excellent base for whatever you choose, nice find!

dcarch- My son went to college for five years and is a Graphic Designer for an advertising agency and he has never sent me a picture like that!!!!!!!!!! He says that Photo Shop can do that but I am currently unedumacated about Photo Shop. Since you are holding your RECIPE for graphic fun a secret, I will have to continue using my old fashioned imagination to plan projects!!!!!!!!!! LOL

It looks like one that I have. It was the top part to a big bird cage. I put mine in my flower bed and planted purple clematis vines around it. They have wound up it and look really pretty in the spring. ~Anj

It definitely should be hung somewhere outside. I think with some variety of flowers in it, some that climb and then trail down?

If you paint it, sand as much of the old loose paint as you can get off, (or take it somewhere and have it dipped to get down to bare metal). The paint I would use is Fusion paint. I am sold on that stuff. It is twice as much in cost but it really lasts. I wait till I have several items to paint so I can use most of the can.

I love all of the ideas...I suggest that you just jump in and do the one that jumped out at you first....I think you mentioned a chandelier....if you get tired of it that way you can always change it later. I like the blingy chandelier idea...but I would leave it rusty and add the bling to it. The contrast would be wonderful.
