One of my sons suggested a Reddit sub-forum for us instead.

That did come up as a possibility, Mamampinky. The thinking was that forums like Kitchens and Decorating were easy to make commercial with many possible things to sell users. Forums like KT, Decorating Conversations and Hot Topics don't have the same ability to target buyers.

Home Decorating conversations still shows for me. The only thing I see different is Kitchens, and I'm lurking there constantly. And getting some great ideas from some very talented people, many things I wouldn't have considered. I should have been keeping a notebook ;0(

The Kitchen Forum seems to be converting to a platform similar to Facebook. They are pushing what they perceive to be one's interests but also allowing customization. I'll have to give a little time. It may actually be a good thing as long as there is access to all and the pros don't take over.

I played around the new format for a bit. The font has changed but the posts and replies are same as always. The search feature is back and takes you to the related subject on the current forum you are viewing. There is a system in place to focus on "your topics" and "featured topics" on a sidebar. You can edit the features to suit. I get there the same way I always have. From the Kitchen Table I click on Home Forums at the top of this page or the sidebar on the KT homepage and then Kitchens or any other forum on the list as always. I don't understand the issue of finding/losing forums people are referring to. Instead of pages it uploads new thread as you scroll. Really it seems OK to me.

When I went to the Kitchen forum ( Android tablet ), a popover blocked the page and I would have needed to pick at least 3 newsletters to continue.

I found this very nice gardening forum lately and it's format is similar to here. It is quite enjoyable and I may join. Perhaps we all need to agree on a new meeting place ....just in case?

Is anyone here computer savvy & can make a forum? Then again it would cost money.

There has been a "new meeting place" for a very long time. It is called the meeting place. No, I don't have a link for it... but someone made it quite a few years ago, and a lot of KT people went there.

AARP has one for it's members? I am not so I have never seen it. If the only change here was that I would need to receive newsletters, that's OK. I have a specific email account for newsletters anyway.

There are always other forums. GardenBuddies comes to mind for the Cooking forum migration after Spike sold to iVillage. The format kept me away, and now that I look at it again, it's still hard to navigate. Starting a forum isn't easy business. I hope it never becomes necessary.

I just went over there. In order to read it at all I *have* to click a topic from a list. I clicked on Design Dilemma. Now, when we click on a thread, it opens in a new, separate window. Not bad, if you want to go back and forth, between threads, perhaps.

Rita, you are not being an alarmist. I think that we are going to lose this forum. As stated above, there isn't a way for Houzz to make money from the KT so why keep it?

I have to politely disagree. I think it'll be around. There are ads and that is a way for them to generate revenue. I assume they're making changes getting ready for their tv launch, expecting a new flush of forum users, not that they're overhauling everything.

It was me. Someone said that it wasn't a good idea to post emails on a public forum.

There is the KT Gathering Place started by Joanne, but it is not very active. Not sure if there is a place to share discussions like we do here.

But that might be a good landing spot.

I don't know whether Houzz is getting ready for their TV launch but I agree with Rob. They're not going anywhere.

The new format doesn't allow for the use of AdBlock Plus...which I use liberally to keep all Houzz pages as clear/clean as possible to facilitate my reading. With AMD...clutter of the advertisement type doesn't help much when I'm trying to read or reply to a post/thread.

On the newly formatted Houzz Kitchen page...when I Ad-blocked anything...a dark screen fell over the entire page...like a black out shade...and made the page inoperable. If Houzz changes their format here at the KT...I'll have some serious thinking to do as to whether I can continue to be an active member here. I've bumped heads with this AdBlock "blocking" on a few of my previously bookmarked news sites and I discontinued utilizing the sites. I hope that doesn't become necessary here. The next few weeks ought to be interesting.

I haven't been on GardenBuddies for a couple years. It was becoming less active then, doubt things have changed for the better.

FANTASTIC!!! You're right, Chloe. It's fixed!!! As for the format...I kinda like its clean lines but it's obvious that they're still working on it. Things that people were complaining about last night seem to be fixed today. But I'm easy to please. LOL

the KT gathering place is just for information. But.... if you want to email me I will keep all your emails safe. I have many already. If the KT goes under I will get in touch will everyone and we can go somewhere else. Let me know if you have any better ideas.

How do I delete my account?

remove your Houzz account, sign in to your account on houzz.com and go

I like the changes! Much easier to navigate to a source of information.

Not all people are seeking a discussion forum. Some pay for professional advice and services.

I would appreciate it if someone from Houzz would be so kind as to let us know what the plans for the future of the forums look like. Should we expect all the forums to change over to the new format that we see over at the Kitchen Forum? Does Houzz intend to allow places like KT and Hot Topics to continue, or will there be a pruning? Emily H, could you enlighten us please? We really enjoy this 21C. coffee klatch and are concerned about being able to stay in touch.

House already knows your interests. How do you think your profile page/notifications/recent posts are managed? Websites like this track user traffic. Always have. The difference is that they are giving us more ability to customize our accounts, not less. There is no conspiracy here. Nothing is going away.

It needs more people! But if we all went to both/either of these places
we could make it be like here.We need to keep our screen name. I had joined city-data a couple of weeks ago. I can't change my screen name, I have to have a different email address if I want to join as "someone else" so that takes care of that idea for me.

Just open a new gmail and use that for your membership.

There are many forums that need to be combined or taken down. For example, Fish & Game. Nothing's being posted there and most of the information is old and irrelevant. Most fisherpersons are members of their respective state game fishing website or a specific site, like crappie.com, bass resource.com,walleye.com, etc.

Well...the expansion will probably be the end of me as a Houzz member. The article doesn't give a specific date but with all the commotion going on over these last few weeks...I think it's safe to assume that it's in the works now. Too bad. I've been here a long time and many of the members at this table helped me through the rough months following the loss of my husband. But Firefox isn't always happy with the security of the Houzz website and Malwarebytes Premium has had a few "comments" to make about it as well. Maybe opening the global doors will improve the Houzz security system. I hope so for all concerned.

On the bright side...my eyesight will appreciate the rest away from my monitor...and surely...my other demands and interests will appreciate my renewed attention. There's always a bright side to life's little burps.
