Organic way to get rid of Bermuda grass
Comments (156)No one asking anyone to read ALL those replies. If you do not want to know what we know, skip our replies. On a new thread or topic, we will come over & reply & you will be back where you are now. jolj(7b/8a) henry, I am going to try solarization on my bahia grass. 90% of the things on this thread will not eradicate bahia grass. This includes round up, which kills the tops, but not the deep roots. Round up will not kill nut sage/ nut grass or common dew berry vines. So I will try this on the bahia. I have heard that the solarization may kill the soil food web, when it kills the weeds. I am planning to sheet compost the beds after I kill the grass/ weeds. I have been told that tilling kills the soil food web. Not sure who is right or if it matters, I give vegetables away every season including the winter. I grow more then I can use, then I must be doing something right. Comments (49)Rosefolly and Colleen, we grow black, red and white currants in our veggie garden and certainly the birds will eat them given half a chance. If we have enough we turn the reds into jelly, traditionally served with roast lamb/mutton or jugged-hare. We generally freeze them 'whole' and add them to apple sauce (from our own cooking apples) which is reheated and added to cereal at breakfast. A few berries eaten raw as part of a fruit salad are fine, but they need cooking as the taste can be too strong. Our area used to be a prime location for blackcurrant growing, part of a Govt scheme to provided vitamin C for children from the late 1930's run by the company Ribena. As children we used to love this stuff. It came in a bottle of concentrated fruit juice which had to be 'watered down'. Good taken in hot water for winter colds etc. Now is tastes nothing like the original and is more like 'pop' with a horrible metallic, chemically enriched flavour. The company, along with many others producing 'soft drinks' has been forced to lower the sugar levels following Govt 'advice' about obesity Ribena Info . .. pretty pics but may contain adverts!...See MoreOne space or two?
Comments (59)chuggerguy is correct, it isn't that Houzz is de-spacifying the submitted posts, instead it is the browser's typical behavior when given HTML content to de-dupe multiple consecutive spaces, since often lines of text in HTML paragraphs are arbitrarily broken at a space and then indented on the next line for readability of the HTML source and the extra spaces need to be removed by the browser at display time. The rule may have come about due to the separation of concerns in modern publishing, where the author creates the semantic content -- the words and how they are ordered. And the publisher decides what the result looks like -- where lines are broken, what fonts are used. And the spacing after a period is definitely a "what it looks like" decision. Similarly in creating content for the web, the more modern approach is to use semantic tags that describe what the content means, and then at display time, style sheets are used to specify how the different semantic elements should look. Given that hypothesis, it may be that the younger generation, have adopted this rule without really understanding its point. If you are only creating "content" you should only use a single space after a period. The typesetting algorithm will create the correct spacing. However if you are using a WYSIWYG editor, you are filling both roles, content creator and publisher, at the same time....See MoreIkea Lidingo cabinets yellowing and getting stained
Comments (34)I got nowhere with Ikea so I found a thread about painting them & this primer is the key. It is the only thing that will work and hold up. I actually was pleased with the color the primer came out alone. I didn’t end up painting white, just used this primer and a clear topcoat and I found the doors matched the white of the rest of the cabinet. I also did not sand before primer, I used a good degreaser to clean then painted. I did 2 coats of primer with a quality cabinet paint roller allowing 24 hrs dry time between....See MoreRita / Bring Back Sophie 4 Real
