Choosing my first exterior color scheme
Comments (5)Thanks for the response, from recommendations of other friends too they said my like is just too dark for my house. Wish it was designed better...too much roof in the view! :( So here's the other two colors I'm really liking. :) Again, hard to tell how they'll do on my house. The left side is unique with the purple trim (reminds me of a whimsical cottage). But its kind of muted. I like how the right side pops but don't totally like the yellowish trim..and what color is the shutters, dark green I think? And it may not look as good without having more of that nice brown with the garage doors. I got my first quote too, 1800! Seems a bit high so having others tomorrow. Hoping to stay near 1k-1.2k otherwise its eating into my new patio budget....See MoreChoosing an exterior color scheme with our new home.
Comments (2)I'm cracking up because of the number of colors you have tried. I'm the same way when it comes to finding the perfect option for just about anything. Maybe you are simply looking to have fun with color and want more than two colors on your house, but I like to make gutters as inconspicuous as possible. So, I would probably paint the fascia the same color as the window trim and gutters and the soffit either the same color as the house or the same color as the fascia. The sandy accent color is nice, though. If you don't mind the gutter being more noticeable (or change them to match the fascia color), you could paint the fascia Ponytail and the soffit Navajo Red....See MoreHelp me choose exterior colors for my Tudor style house!
Comments (7)I'd call it Tudor, but its probably more accurately a storybook cottage. Whatever you want to call it, what a neat house. It's adorable! I'd prefer a light stucco with dark trim. It's just what looks right to me. The green you have now reminds me a little of the green used in the brick and timber frame farmhouses in northern Germany. My grandfather told me that they painted the wood green for good luck (or maybe it was to blend in with the moss) https://farm9.static.flickr.com/8689/17227343571_5c078f319f_b.jpg...See MoreHelp me find the color scheme for my house!
Comments (7)Nice home and yard. Definitely would not paint any brick. Would not add shutters; instead, would flank the left window with a pair of shrubs that keep their attractive appearance year round. In planting Zone 7, consider aucuba bushes or holly bushes or even the kind of abelia bushes that keep its leaves year round -- any shrub that looks good year round. Your door is a dark (wood?) finish and is more dominant than the garage door, as it should be. If your front door is to be painted, it could be repainted your favorite dark bold color with the same effect as long as you left your garage door a lighter color -- preferably one that makes it visually disappear rather than stand out -- which is likely why its current color was chosen. Your left window is white but there appears to be a dark (?brown?) trim stripe around it -- yet your larger center window grouping appears to have a darker frame as well as a dark (?brown?) trim stripe around it. If most of your windows are one color or the other, consider painting all windows and window frames so they'll be the same color. This light brick home is one that would look good with white windows and all white trim around doors and windows and white soffit and fascia as well -- even a white garage door and trim. Sage green could tend to make this brick look more pink than beige and you should at least test any paint color you are considering. Paint something and after it dries, then place it in front of the brick and look at it in different light (bright sun and twilight) before making a final decision....See Morecoining1992
