Best Cat litter? Your suggestions
Comments (10)How do ya'll change your kitty litter? Do you add to it after scooping or change it completely every couple of days? I'm pretty new at having cats, just got my first about a year ago, and then added another one about 3 months ago. I am SO sensitive of smells and I have tried numerous kitty litters. I don't care how expensive it is, as long as it works. I have tried World's Best, and I really like it the first couple of days, but then the odor control goes away. But, maybe I am doing it wrong, as I scoop about 3 times a day, and just add to the litter in the box until every Saturday and then clean box and add new litter. I have recently gone back to Tidy Cats Small Spaces and it is not dusty and it seems to control odor better. Why this time, I don't know! I tried the Tidy Cat's Breeze system, and one cat wouldn't use it, so went back to regular covered litter box. I don't think I've tried Precious Cat, so may try it next time....See Morecat lovers: where did you put the dreadful litter box?
Comments (43)Wow! Thanks to everybody for all of the your creative suggestions!!! I am still debating on the better location. It's either going to be in the garage or the basement bathtub (that no one EVER uses). For what it's worth, we use Tidy Cats clumping litter and it seems to do the best job for us. I also installed one of those intermittent spray air fresheners (runs on batteries and hangs on a simple nail) just over the tub where their box is. That has made a great deal of difference...but It's not enough to make me want a litter box off my foyer anymore! Natal, thanks for asking about the basement. It really got me rethinking my position on that. My reasons for avoiding using it as a litter spot is that since our renovation, the basement is just soooo nice now...I just hate to have that durn box, the scattered litter, the smells, etc. down there! The only place it can go is the tub though. My concern with that is that the tub is acrylic, and I am afraid of getting too many scratches. But, I'm thinking that if I get a couple of throw rugs to line the tub and lay over the edge, it might not be a problem. Now I'll just have to find a way of keeping them from clawing up the leather furniture that's down there...(maybe we'll have to re-try Soft Paws...hmmmm...) Sujafr, Thanks for the warning about losing the fire-rating on the door to the garage. I would not have thought of that in a zillion years. Hmmmmm...now that option does not seem so great. My DH will certainly hate the idea knowing that little tidbit. I'm glad I did not do my usual thing and just impulsively hack a hole in the door! Jeanne gallo--wow!!! That little cut-out for the kitties is awesome! I so want that in my next house!!!! Do you mind if I save a copy of the photos?? Thanks again, everybody! You guys are THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...See MoreVacuum Cleaner for Clumping Cat Litter Bits + Fur
Comments (8)Well, we've had two cats for 22 years as well as wood floors and I just used the small sized shop vac from Lowes which easily did the trick. I have a 300.00 upright Riccar upstairs for the carpet and it's been nothing but trouble. I learned the hard way, more expensive does not necessarily mean better. Storing it wasn't the easiest, so when my 38.00 shop vac finally started to fritz out, I decided to find something a little smaller in scale. I chose the Eureka Professional style Sanitaire and it's worked out perfectly. It's light weight and smaller in scale, hepa ready and works great on wood floors. It has a few different attachments and a telescoping feature which makes it easy to reach in high places. Best of all it didn't break the bank cost wise. This is the one I got but there are several different models/price ranges you can choose from. The suction on them is not as strong as the shop vac but it certainly gets the job done. She doesn't flinch at all when you try to make her blink. I took her to the vets and they ran blood tests and her thyroid levels are too high. They want to increase her meds but one vet wants to confer with the other one on this given her medical history. Another reason I have to keep her separated is when I put her meds in her wet food, if she doesn't eat it right away, one of the other cats will finish off her wet food. I spend quality time with her by keeping the other two out of my bedroom. I pick her up and just hold her in my arms and she purrs so sweetly. They also did chest x-rays because the vet thought her breathing was labored. Turns out her lungs are clear but he said it looks like her heart is enlarged. Waiting for final results on this. When I'm home, I bring her out into the sunroom and I can monitor her but the problem is the other cats sometimes jump on her to initiate play and she will cry out, then I have to rescue her as the other cats do not realize her age and condition. It's really a tough situation but I'm trying to work it out. I have to make sure I'm not neglecting my other 2 cats-:). Here is a pic of my other cats! They have the life-;)...See Morejim_1 (Zone 5B)
