Going by your pictures...I think something like this would be perfect. Look for a bed sort of like this but in a full not a twin and four drawers underneath instead of over nine or whatever in this photo. That way the bed would be as high.

I would keep an eye on CL for a full captains bed. If you can find one with four drawers you might be able to retro fit one into a pull out chair. You could do some shelving on tv wall and eliminate that dresser. At IKEA they have wallmount desks & tables that latch onto the wall when not in use or look for a small adjustable height desk on wheels that lock. Keep the walls & window treatments light. Do a wood captains bed and a small manly rug. And, art! Go to garage sales, thrifts or look on eBay or CL.

I think a captain's bed would be a great solution for you. We squeezed a California king platform bed into a 10x10 room. It was tight, but we got by because of the built-in storage.
