Anyone want to help accessorize my mantel? :) (pics!)
Comments (19)A pretty picture! Love the colors. I would add a tall glass vase with a few tall flowering branches on one side of the picture and group the lanterns on the other side. The reason for the taller element is because right now I am seeing pretty much everything on the mantel having the same height more or less. The tall branches will help stagger that. If you can, play around with placing one of the lanterns on a small stack of books. Not many, maybe two or three to add some height if the branches need some balance. It doesn't have to match the branches in height, just so there is not a huge differewnce. Your eye will know. The owls can probably be included as another height element somewhere near the vase to add some weight to that side since the vase/glass reads as empty. Maybe add some glass marbles in the bottom of the vase to anchor the branches and add some sparkle. Have fun! I've linked to some pictures of mantels. Take a look and see what you like. Comments (4)I think you are right. Someone on another forum pointed out that the pink layer of plaster on top of the brick is plaster weld, which was first used in 1952, so I think the mantel was put on during an update sometime in the 50s or early 60s....See MoreI painted my fireplace surround black and regret it.

Then......in a very cool toned look of those selections of art/wall decor, you are insisting they go over the mantel, where the REST of all trim is still very visible, and the tile surround is also warm. Unhappiness is your result The "playful" selections/pics you posted. may have been or are great on some other wall in that room, or in another spot in your house. Even painted black, that particular spot is begging for SOMETHING with a bit of warmth, no matter if you paint the tile, or re tile, or go back to trim white on the mantel. You are asking about this ONE spot. I gave you three suggestions. .......right? You saw the difference. You recognized that the first problem you missed, that LEAD to the paint job, was in fact the art above the off white mantel. That was best described as an ice cube atop a fire : ) I don't think you want to repaint all the trim in your house. Which...............yes, should have been a cleaner brighter white if the COOL palette is your favorite. Or all of our monitors are lying, or it was the time of day the pic was taken. You can WORK with what you have. Broaden your palette a bit too....See MoreShould inpaint my fireplace mantel black/dark grey?
Comments (1)The family room will look modern with a linear fireplace, but I need to figure out how to make the fireplace in the front more modern. Remove that traditional mantel.....See Moretatts
