Entryway Ideas (when you have no entryway)
Comments (56)Well, I managed to build an entryway table this weekend...so there's no going back now - no more couch on the wall! Oh and those unsightly sidelight curtains found their final resting place in the trash too. Whoever came up with these window films is genius! Thinking maybe chalk painting the table, sanding a few edges to expose the wood and some storage baskets below for blankets and such....See MoreHelp with Entryway with stairs Flooring ideas
Comments (1)Yes....three flooring types inside of 2 feet is two too many. The issue becomes which floor to keep and which two to get rid of. Right now you have the maximum amount of flooring options in a single space = 2. If you add a 3rd you will be kicking yourself in 1-2 years. It looks like tile is the best option for your situation so why not go with tile? I'm guessing the answer is, "Because there is a lot of tile in the home and I want to keep this a small project." If you want to replace the carpet on the stairs and the sitting room, you are probably better off replacing with more carpet. This will allow for a refresh on a small scale. You will do this knowing full well that a massive flooring update will be coming in the next 5-7 years. It will give you time to save up for all new flooring....See MoreFlooring idea for sunken entry
Comments (1)Find some peel and stick vinyl tiles. So long as the subfloor is clean, they will go down very easily. It is DIY level stuff without much issue for the dude laying the floor (or dudette...). I love cork glue down tiles in this situation. It is possible to get 20sf of glue down tile (4mm should do it) a quart of Roberts glue and 1 Litre of Loba 2K Supra AT. Again, so long as the subfloor is clean (yep...we'll need photos) you should be fine. My love of cork pushes me in that direction. Cork is an oak. That means it has ALL the colour tones found in ANY other oak species. You get a lovely tone-on-tone match with cork to most any other hardwood. If the cork interests you, go ahead and look up 4mm glue down tiles from my former colleague Anne at www.icorkfloor.com She'll get you everything you need to work a small cork project....See MoreExterior Stairs with no Landing - Contractor Issue
Comments (12)Sub-section R311.3.2 is from the IRC rather than the IBC; the IBC is for multi-family and non-residential buildings. Here is the applicable sub-section from the Washington State Residential Code, Section R311 - Means of Egress: Here is the Washington State Residential Code (taken from the 2018 IRC): https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/WARC2018P1/chapter-3-building-planning...See Moreacm
