Need help identifying what's killing my hydrangea!
Comments (5)Thanks jean001a & gardengal48 for your incite. This is all such a relief to know. Will definitely post photos again before yanking anything else. The hosta was in really bad shape all season. Never grew any bigger and leaves kept dying off. There was barely anything left of the plant when I yanked it. Being a newbie to gardening, I don't know how to determine if my garden has poor drainage or not. Is there a test I can do? When it's raining, there are some small pools of water, but it doesn't sit long once the rain subsides. I have been discovering other fungal issues in my garden. My groundcover was almost completely wiped out by a black slimy mold which I saved with some regular fungicide treatments. And a tree in the garden has some fungal issues as well that may be killing the tree. It took a really long time to grow leaves this year. Mushrooms growing off the sides of it...etc. Little mushrooms also pop up here and there in my garden. So, I think the soil conditions are encouraging fungal growth. Any further incite would be greatly appreciated....See MoreNeed help to identify tomato issues
Comments (7)We are dealing with 3 issues here. 1- Yellowing Leaves: As long as it starts from the very lowest, that is normal and I would prune all such leaves as not only they won't make e any contribution but might be a haven for disease. So I remove any/and all of them. 2- Not Getting Ripe Tomatoes: (a) BW is very sentimental . I had one in 2013 that I did not even get a single ripe fruit off of it. But any ordinay tomato variety, (even late one) should've produce ripe fruits by now if you planted them in March. It has been more than 120 days. Now the question is : Are there green ones on any of your plants ? Have you been having temps over 95F alot ? Some varieties just wont set at temps 94F and higher. Another reason for lack of fruiting it too much ferts or improper type of ferts. Too much Nitrogen can cause blossom drop/abortion. I see in one of the picture in the link provided, showing crisping edges. That is often associated with high Nitrogen feeding. It is amazing, plants fruit most when deprived of nutrients. Too much nutrients often encourage just lots of foliage growth. I think probably I am guilty of over fertilizing myself. LIVE AND LEARN !! 3_ Rotting Fruits: It looks like BER. And it is often caused by inconsistent moisture level. DRY >>> over water >>> DRY ( cycle). Of course, there are other causes of rotting too, such as injuries caused by insects and pests. Comments (3)It looks like bermuda with - 'bermuda white leaf disease'. "Bayer advanced" (available at home depot, Lowe's) makes a product to control bermuda in fescue. I have not used it, but usually this type product requires 3 applications - spring summer and fall..........however, with the bermuda already diseased, you could get lucky and wipe it out with one application....See MoreNeed Help: Identify this hydrangea...
Comments (9)The blooms look too new for me to guess. Look for a two-toned effect (white with pink) on older blooms to tell if it is PW. Because it is a new purchase, the blooming time can be deceiving. On year one, this is affected by the wholesaler preparing the plant for sale such that it has blooms earlier than normal. So it could be PW after all; just this year is not a good one to tell if it is blooming early naturally or thanks to the wholesaler....See MoreUser
