And in My Kitchen I Shall Have...
Comments (44)I never got past decorating with frosting. I'd love to try gum paste and fondant someday (when I have more time and gumption, lol). I would use the word hobbyist or devotee to describe your artwork. Amateur sounds like a beginner somehow, which you clearly aren't... I took cake decorating classes when I was pregnant with son #2. By the time he arrived, I had not enough time to coninue since the older one was 17 mos. A cake used to take me hours upon hours because I am a bit of a perfectionist. I suppose I'd get faster with more practice. I guess my excuses are now lame since my baby is 8.5! It was more fun in our old kitchen because I had the space to do it and this one, pre-reno was small and awkward. I suppose I should put the new one through its paces. You have given me a nudge to continue because I really appreciate what you have done. I may never be as good, but it is fun to try ;) I do not have artistic talent for drawing or painting, but somehow, with frosting, I can fake it better, lol........See MoreNew York City in mid May....what shall I do ?
Comments (58)As a perpetual tourist (I live here), here's my take: 1) STATUE OF LIBERTY. This is an all day trip. Go early. Book your tickets ahead of time on the Internet. Pack a lunch. The kind of food they sell on the island is the kind that gets you sick on the ferry going back. You can go to the highest point, the crown, if you go on the first boat of the day. But it's not worth it (tiny little room, tiny windows, crappy view, horrific climb up corkscrew stairs to get there). The rest of the day, you'll go to the base, which has a great view. There is also a fantastic museum IN the Statue. You can buy combo tickets for the Statue and Ellis Island, but even if you whiz through the Statue, you will end up with about an hour to spend on Ellis Island--if you are really interested in Ellis Island, think about making it a separate trip. 2) I third the STATEN ISLAND FERRY. Here's what I usually do with my guests. Find out when sunset is (check the paper's weather page or the Internet). Make sure that you are in the waiting room for the Staten Island Ferry 15 minutes before that time. Get on the ferry. Watch the sunset of the Statue of Liberty. When you get to Staten Island, get off the ferry and get on the next one going to Manhattan. If you are in the front of the boat, facing Manhattan, you will get a postcard view of downtown Manhattan all lit up. Did I mention that this trip is FREE??? As I think of more, I'll post more....See MoreWhat kind of texture shall I do?
Comments (2)Exactly what pharaoh said....See MoreShall I Meet the Buyers Before the Closing
Comments (14)I would tell them to come after they have a mortgage commitment so you have more evidence that closing will occur. I don't know your backstory but it sounds as if some issues have occurred already. Heck no, they don't come back to measure until it is a done deal (or nearly). I would absolutely meet them. I handle every aspect of my own deals even if Realtors are involved (except posting the actual listing, and some forwarding of information for Realtors who fear dealing with principals). But I know how to chit-chat and not be grilled for information or say stupid, deal-killing things if that happens to be a possibility. I've done this successfully many times, and the Buyers are always happy to hear the relevant inside info on the house. One time I was able to tell them the Vienna Boys choir once performed from my loft (for previous, original owners) and several opera stars had stayed in the home. People love to hear stuff like that. I prefer to be in the home, because I have had agents/prospective buyers cause damage while "checking things out". I keep an eye on that....See MoreSharon Wettlaufer
