PART 2 - my 'little cottage'
Comments (8)I remember this little cottage and how much I loved it when you shared photos of it last year. I think it was last year - anyway I've thought of it often since. I went to a local builder of garden and utility sheds and toured one of the little buildings they called "Child's Play House". Oh, I saw SO much potential! Like you mentioned, it would definitely have to have a little more height inside but I was smitten. It also had a loft. I asked him if he could make it more Tudor style and brick. He said, "We could build it anyway you like!" Yeah, I bet and for big $$$$$. Sigh..I can only dream....See MoreFinally, my crooked little cottage is getting finished!
Comments (29)Thanks Louisianapurchase! Ernie and I went out to the gym this morning, it is so, so nice to have plenty of room. I was working out in a space about half this size and had to move things every time I changed exercise or when I wanted to get the treadmill out. It's so nice to be able to set up and just roll through the work out. While I would have loved to have my desk in front of the windows, the sacrifice was worth it. Now I can set up and work out on both sides of the bench when doing alternating sets. I love the two walls of mirrors too. And everything is organized, what a dream! Doing step ups on one side : Then walk around to do split squats on the other, no having to move anything or change weights. Once I have the other bar it will work even better. Now Ernie's take on this. He says he can't understand why mom is keeping all her stuff in his Corgi Cottage, but if it makes her happy he is willing to share. As far as the weight lifting stuff, it was very boring. First she put me in puppy jail, something about her being tripped or me getting squished .. she is silly like that. I tried to remind her how fast I can run and dodge .. but what ever. So I used this time to recharge my batteries. Now I don't understand the whole cardio thing either .. she could just chase me, then we both would be having fun! On the plus side though .. when she got on the eliptical I was sprung from jail. I found her nasty lifting gloves and had my way with them, well until she saw me! It was almost as good as rolling dead worms outside. :)...See MoreA little disappointed in Cottage Living
Comments (25)Well, I love finding "Cottage Living" in my mailbox. Some are better than others, but I found a lot of inspiration in issues I collected in the couple years I began subscribing when we built our lake cottage. In fact, I pulled a page showing a beadboard dining nook that DH reproduced almost exactly - only theirs was white and ours is black. I enjoy the lifestyle features as well, especially seasonal recipes from Sara Foster. I'm not crazy about the "cottage neighborhood" features, probably because most of them are urban, and none are ever from my area. About once or twice a year they do a compilation issue that's not part of the subscription. It features the "best of" design and ideas and it's all decor, no lifestyle stuff. You might keep an eye out for one of those at the checkout or book store....See MoreUgly little cottage needs a beautiful new kitchen. Layout thoughts?
Comments (21)laughable - I agree with you in that the peninsula that was there originally functioned well as a place for a second person to prep, a place to set dishes/food etc on and I like being able to stand there and look out the window where the only view is. We also cook all meals from scratch so there does need to be pantry space for this which saves us from having to transport staples from home. Herb- I appreciate your experience as a cottage user as well. It is possible we will be spending 5-6months at a time there in a few years so storage is important especially since the main living area is quite compact and there is not a lot of extra room for sideboards or other furniture type storage pieces. I would like to try and maximize the storage possibilities in the kitchen space. benjesbride - I could live with the corner sink if I had too. I would like to try working a peninsula into the plan, although the trade off is losing the broom closet in the plan that had the fridge at the end of the counter run. We can steal some space from the eating area to extend the main counter run a bit. Would it look odd to wrap a narrow cabinet on the stair wall from the pantry corner? That could be the broom storage....See More4Heidesign
