Wood Mode vs. Crown Point?
Comments (25)I have used both Crown Point and Wood-Mode for projects and they both make good solid cabinets. Crown Point is a smaller company than Woodmode. I have now found a small company in Chicago that has earned my business, "Best Cabinets". Best Cabinets is a small custom manufacturer of custom cabinets and custom furniture. They own their own Sawmill and Kilns and have very good quality. They Bookmatch and sequece match their lumber for better quality than many of the larger companies. Also, the construction of their cabinets is supurb. There standard drawer boxes are Solid Maple Dovetailed and they install a Walnut Face to their drawer box which looks awesome. They build Inset, Framed and Frameless Cabinets. All 3/4" Maple Plywood Construction for their cases. They will custom match any paint or stain color for "no extra charge". They will "measure" and or "install" anywhere in the USA. They hand deliver all their cabinets in a blanket wrapped truck anywhere in the US. I like their hinges better than "Crown Points" and the Quality of the cabinets seems better than Wood-Mode. They are also great at servicing clients both locally and out of state. They have award winning designers and one of their kitchens was just selected for the front cover of a National Magazine, "Signature Kitchens & Baths".(Winter 2011) Here is a link that might be useful: custom kitchens...See MoreHiding a 6 inch filler on a Wood-Mode cabinet
Comments (11)The good news is that the kitchen designer is going to see about getting a beadboard panel to cover the whole cabinet side. We discussed putting on a chamford edge on the front side of the panel. To make sure it fits, she says that she'll order it slightly longer than required and then have someone scribe it in. We are hopeful that the new "someone" doing the scribing will be more skilled than the other people. Crossing fingers. Why did the 6 inch filler become necessary? Without guessing, I only know what I have been told: This cabinet and the cabinet to the right were ordered as a perimeter pair, attached to each other. My wall is not a straight wall, however. The wall sinks backwards 6 inches. So, the cabinets were placed 6 inches from the wall leaving a 6 inch gap behind both the loveseat and the left cabinet. A small wall (unplanned and unexpected, at least by me) about 21 inches high was built so that there would be something behind the loveseat and the other cabinet. There was still a gap. I was assured it would be taken care of. Finally, while the tile people were putting the tile down, the mismatched piece of 6 inch wide filler was placed and the tiling was completed in that spot very quickly. The tile job was another nightmare I won't recount here. So, that is how it happened. Why it doesn't match? I am told that it is a different batch of my paint finish and each batch can vary. Thankfully, this problem is hopefully going to be solved. I am really hopeful that everything goes as planned and the side of this cabinet is made to be presentable. Here are other pics of the cabinet area being discussed:...See MoreCabinets: Any recommendations for Woodmode or Brookhaven?
Comments (19)I've had 2 woodmode kitchens and a brookhaven kitchen renovation in 3 different houses and very pleased with all of them. the most recent was 3 yrs. ago and the first was 25 yrs ago. All were white or off white and even though I love them and would do it again you have to be prepared to have some marking on the fridge door and the garbage door - and if you have people around that are a little careless you have to wash the cabinets by the handles from time to time and they'll be fine - be careful of the kicksplash too. get the paint and glaze to patch up the spots. I had the same kitchen person do all 3 and went with them after pricing big box and other woodmode dealers - they are not all equal. initially I got an estimate for brookhaven cabinets way more expensive than the dealer I went with and none more willing to work with my ideas. the brookhaven renovation was a small condo kitchen where we didn't want to spend a lot - they were able to offer more for roughly the same price as a big box store and the service was so much better. my last kitchen was abt 10 yrs after the last one (different house) roughly the same size - the cabinet prices were abt the same - I think there was a special pricing event both times and the stuff that was all wood before might not be now, but the quality is great. my current kitchen is white with a glaze, gray caesarstone perimeter counters and an island with Calcutta marble. the dealer I used is pentermann's in Manasquan nj and they were great - Virginia and her husband and their installation guys are great too....See MoreRefacing Wood Mode Cabinets
Comments (2)I remember that '1989' door style very well, Do you have wood sides on the cabinets and a wood face frame? If so, it would be easy to reface using any wood doors stained to match those existing sides. In any case, Elias woodwork produces EVERYTHING you would need to reface anything.
