Would we be able to get a custom end panel made to fit that would tuck under the "chair rail" that is my edging?

I'd guess yes, but does anyone know for sure?

To answer your question about a custom end panel, I'd be surprised if Wood-Mode could NOT do that. They customize all sorts of things (for a price).

I used W-M for my remodel one year ago (actually, demo was one year ago today!! happy anniversary to me), and ended up needing several customized parts after we got rolling....A "surprise" support pole had to be clad in painted wood with trim; faulty measurement meant I had a 3-inch gap in my upper cabs, but they made a 3-inch door that the contractor turned into a narrow upper cab, a great place to house instruction manuals; and a few other things.

Just tell your KD or contact what you need.

I am wondering why they don't match? Did they just use soemthing they had available? I would be interested in seeing a more general picture so I could put it in context.

Woodmode should certainly be able to come up with something better than telling you to tile it.

I cannot really see what the view of that cabinet is. Can you post a more overview picture as palimpsest says so we can see what you are dealing with?

The good news is that the kitchen designer is going to see about getting a beadboard panel to cover the whole cabinet side. We discussed putting on a chamford edge on the front side of the panel. To make sure it fits, she says that she'll order it slightly longer than required and then have someone scribe it in. We are hopeful that the new "someone" doing the scribing will be more skilled than the other people. Crossing fingers.

Why did the 6 inch filler become necessary? Without guessing, I only know what I have been told: This cabinet and the cabinet to the right were ordered as a perimeter pair, attached to each other. My wall is not a straight wall, however. The wall sinks backwards 6 inches.

So, the cabinets were placed 6 inches from the wall leaving a 6 inch gap behind both the loveseat and the left cabinet.

A small wall (unplanned and unexpected, at least by me) about 21 inches high was built so that there would be something behind the loveseat and the other cabinet.

There was still a gap. I was assured it would be taken care of.

Finally, while the tile people were putting the tile down, the mismatched piece of 6 inch wide filler was placed and the tiling was completed in that spot very quickly.

The tile job was another nightmare I won't recount here.

So, that is how it happened. Why it doesn't match? I am told that it is a different batch of my paint finish and each batch can vary.

Thankfully, this problem is hopefully going to be solved. I am really hopeful that everything goes as planned and the side of this cabinet is made to be presentable.

I am so sorry you are having all this trouble. I DO like your cabinets though, they look gorgeous so am I sure in the end all will be well. It seems to me that cabinet should have been ordered with an extended side on the end - I was able to get that for one of my cabinets in my Brookhaven. However, I think that it will look lovely with some kind of paneling on the end.

I had so many freak outs and nightmares with my kitchen so I do understand - but keep going and I am sure it will all turn out well. Those cabinets do look lovely and hopefully you will get someone to correct the crown and trim out issues. Best of luck!

Thank you, buffalotina! We have hope that the project can get moving again next week after a 7 week hiatus. It certainly won't be perfect in many ways, but we do need to finish.

It is interesting to hear how other designers anticipated the cabinetry need and modified the order accordingly.

I adore your details, especially the backsplash and the floor. I can't wait to see it finished.

I recently placed an order for Brookhaven cabinets and was able to order a 6" extension on the side of a base cabinet to extend it back to 30" since it will sit away from the wall (flush with the front of the fridge), plus 2 15" doors to sit on the 30" side of base cabinet, plus a recessed toe kick on that side.

Wood-mode can do this plus more!!!!

If I were to do it again, I would have just used Brookhaven. Even though it is called a "semi-custom" line whereas Wood-Mode is 30% more and supposedly "custom," you can get custom pieces from Brookhaven when you need it. Paying the extra for "custom" Wood-Mode ended up being nothing but extra profit for someone and not a custom kitchen for me.

needsometips08 - thank you for your kind comments. I am actually embarassed to show my tile job here. There are so many beautiful jobs on GardenWeb. My Encore Ceramics tile was really butchered in many ways when it was installed - I couldn't keep up with the many workmanship issues as the tile people threw the pieces up without regard for my wishes on almost every turn. Encore Ceramics tiles are VERY problematic with lots of flaws. A careful installer should have been used for this brand of handmade tile.
