Can you help redesign retaining wall / entry area
Comments (57)I've been travelling -- enjoying the freezing cold weather of San Francisco :-) ... (actually, the last week was gorgeous) and missed a few comments in spite of adding a prior one. The bin blocks will weather out and look fine as planting around them is finished. Merely suggesting a material is a drop in the bucket insofar as whether the finished product will look great or crappy. There are innumerable details that go into making a wall look good. I would put the team that came up with bin blocks on it and think they would do a fine job. Just need to come up with a compatible look. A single course of bin block would be a good solution. If that thickness won't fit, then some facsimile or concrete could work out fine. Brick or pavers near the entrance would be nice in order to add a decorative quality to it. But really, since all the other walk seems to be concrete, there is nothing wrong with that either. The layout is just as important as the material. If there was a nice fabric awning over the door, the whole apartment building would look better....See MoreHow far are those Bishop's Castles from the retaining wall,Hoovb ?
Comments (22)My records tell me I got them in 2015. Uh-oh, I'm hearing it now: Don't get Noseometer started! Because I can seriously overload you with photos. That's how you are with your children... April 23, 2015: I had to put a flag next to them so that I wouldn't step on them by mistake. Own root from DA. June 13, 2015: Here it was last fall, end of its second growing season, September 4, 2016. I wish all (or any, really) of my roses grew like this one. Mine are more bushy, and less lyrical and romantic than hoovb's. Maybe I need to water more. Here it is, on the right, a couple of days ago: And some gratuitous photos, because I like it so much. The first one and the third one are from a couple of days ago. Sorry for the photo overload. I just get excited. And sorry bart, for bombing your thread. I'll remove them if you like....See MoreIncorrectly built retaining wall -- can it be fixed?
Comments (11)I had the same issue, except with a timber wall. A heavily leaning timber wall with no dead man stringer (sleepers). We removed the wall, brought in new fill, and had the hillside re-contoured to give a move natural easy contour. We didn't put in a new retaining wall, and we did lose some of the flat backyard space. That was the downside. The upside is that it looks far more natural and easy on the eyes. The hillside is far enough from the house that water runoff is not an issue. If you don't have the space to re-contour, better to bite the bullet and get a proper retaining wall put in place now before its too late....See MoreCan I add more boho without adding more clutter? Comments (34)I’m laughing at the thought of my squishy, comfy pillows being called forbidding or them fighting with anyone. I took a couple of more pictures, including the chairs without the pillows and I think you’ll agree that the cushions make them look more inviting, not less. Also rearranged so that people can see that the sofa facing the fireplace, chair at each side will not work in the space. I tried it as the most obvious answer and discarded it. It’s awkward to me, like the sofa is turning it’s back on everyone. Also, due to the placement of the fireplace, the sofa and chairs cannot be centered on the fireplace or the bedroom will be blocked completely. I can’t pull the sofa back much more without blocking the walkway. The fact is, space for the ‘living room” is much smaller than you think. I also pulled the rug away, to demonstrate that the rug and sofa not going together is kind of the least of this room’s problems. I wish I could get a good angle that shows just how off center the couch and chairs are....See MoreDalton the Bengal (Zone 6)
