Need paint color help for den with leather couches

I need recommendations for paint colors for the wall and the fireplace. We will have 2 leather couches like the one below in the room. The room is sort of small and dark with only one window. The fireplace is currently primed. I was thinking of using variation of whites. Do you have any color ideas--perferably colors I can buy at lowes- Sherwin Williams/ Valspar that will look good with the leather couches? I'll also plan to switch out the rug-likely an Oriental or Kilim style with warm colors. Thanks!

Personally, I'd find a rug I liked to go with the sofas and then decide on the paint. You might come up with a more inntresting color palette that way too.

Here is something that may help you get a start. This article on complimentary colors. Your couches would be in the orange family, which has complimentary colors in the blues. You could find a rug that you like with some blue in it, and it could help you choose a wall color.

A perfect gray is BM Rockport gray but, if it were my place, I'd use more of a taupe color which would flatter the bluish tones and also the browns from the kitchen. That being said, take a look at BM smokey taupe. It's a blend of gray and beige and really beautiful and warm and goes very well with the wood tones. You're doing well so far. As for the paneled room, I think it's stunning and would never paint it.

You may have to dye over the stain instead of trying to remove it. Much of the leather type furniture being sold today isn't actually leather, it's bonded leather or even fabric. If it's bonded, scrubbing it could cause the thin layer of leather to come off or start peeling. If it's a pen mark or something like that I think that dyeing over it is the way to go but it's it's really large and depending on where it is you may have to have just that part reupholstered. I am transitioning from a brown leather sectional of 13+ years to a deep blue -- not a true navy, that I just got told will deliver Wednesday! If you are a blue person, I think that woud be the way to go. It can be hard to find a blue leather that isn't such a dark navy that you worry it will look black at least some of the time or too bright to work in most traditional/transitional settings. Do you have access to Moore & Giles leathers? They have some nice blues. Mine is Kipling Dolpin, a deep blue grey, (I have two large dogs, a pool and lots of flower beds in the backyard -- I couldn't doo cream or white either).

The room is 12 x 12, so not too big and one window. It tends to be dark. It has wood paneling and crown throughout. The smoke damage has been determined to warrant a refinish/cleaning, not a replace. The floors will be replaced due to smoke between crevices in wood. Ceiling is also being replace. Wood is not beautiful, but overall effect is nice for a small den with one wall built in bookshelves, a set of small double doors (no glass) and a back door out the other side of the room. I am sorry I don't have a better picture, but I am not in the house currently.

I really like Sherwin Williams Creamy. It works well in darker rooms.

Or check out www.kylieminteriors.comfor color suggestions for dark rooms.

You could also go with a dark gray or pretty much any other color.
