michaelg, I have been told to do that and never have, but good reminder. The drip irrigation is a bit harder to determine, as this is the hose with holes every foot or so, so it is not a tube directly feeding each plant, but I will see what the rest of the system does. I am curious how long an average system runs...and I know time should not be the measurement, but wondering if I am way off. Thanks for the input, and I will do that. Jeri, great idea. I am hoping to get the remainders of my "in pot's" in the ground...but 106 today!! It is so hard to leave these unattended. On your timers, how long do you run them? TOO, I have wondered if I debudded roses in hotter areas of the yard, if that would help destress them. I recall one year I pruned a bit, and ended up killing a few, as I guess they took that as a sign to grow. But debudding? Sounds like an option. What do you think?

Ok - FYI, we may have folks here who don't know that it is illegal to send plants or plant materials into California (unless there's proper inspection and certificates). There can be fines for the SENDER "The importation or smuggling into California of live plants and plant product, or unapproved, uninspected, or uncertified wild or domesticated animals, whether as pets or livestock, will have serious legal and financial consequences for the persons involved. These activities are prohibited as they could result in potentially damaging impacts to California's agriculture and environment." https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/plant/pe/transport_animals_plants.html This is why we have agricultural inspection stations say when you drive in from Nevada that ask if you have plant material with you. I know they don't teach it in the schools, so there may be people unaware. It's also why Houzz has the disclaimer on all trading forums.

You did get Goldstern from Tantau. I wanted the Cants Gold Star but I got the Goldstern instead. I have grown Goldstern and it grows into a tall shrub. It is listed as a climber but Tantau says it is a shrub. I kept it down to about 6 feet. You are warmer so it may have to be disciplined in the summer as well a spring pruning.Blooms well and had no BS in my garden. Here are photos for you.

Have not seen this one for sale this year at my garden center or at Lowes. Might have left it too late in going this year. Seen no BS on either one of them. The one lady that lives down the hall from me was remarking tonight how beautiful it was when we were going in for the night. I said yep and it smells great too. Last year when I was seeing to the other roses near it I swear I could smell the perfumed scent coming from them!!! I don't think too you have to deadhead these ones.
