If you type the cultivar name, like COCgrand, into the search field on this page, it will tell you if there is a patent in existence:

Thank you so much Tony. I used that website, google patents and HMF to get the info I have so far for my roses... It still gets confusing for the patents over 20 years though.

I think they would have to reapply for an extension or a new patent if it were to be in force longer than 20 years, but that's probably not a completely black and white issue either.

That's my understanding too. When using the patent search sites, it is confusing to know if an extension was filed. At least for me it is.

Sigh. Trying to play by the rules is hard.

And then I also have a lot of new roses coming that are French and South African... I didn't even want to bring that up! For some of those, it looks like there are patents in other countries, but not here in the U.S. yet. Like these bred by Massad...

Sure thing! Most of them are young, and I just pruned and defoliated everything, so we should wait a few months.

That would be awesome! I've had trouble navigating this site since it became Houzz....how do I find your trade lists nowadays? Let me know what you see that you need on my list. I'm up here on the frozen tundra, so I won't be able to take cuttings until late May or early June. I can root anything you want of mine also, if you'd like.

I also have an extra own root young plant of Dames de Chenonceau that I would be willing to part with. It's from Roses Unlimited. Looks great. I just have an extra one and I'm running out of room.

Ohhh... I see. What zone are you in? Some of our roses may not be compatible for our climates. Like Dames de Chenonceau for example. I believe she likes it hottttt. Most of mine do actually, since I'm in a hotter, inland area of zone 9b.

I only know this site from Houzz... so I'm not familiar with how it was before. I don't even have a trade list or know how to create one! Do you have a link to your trade list? Is it current? I guess I should figure out how to make one.

All of my roses are updated on HMF though. Under: "Cori Ann - Norcal hot and dry 9b" in the "plants grown" in my "garden list."

May, June or even later works great for me. It will be really hot here at that time though (above 100F daily) , so you may just want to wait until later in the year so they don't fry in shipping.

I should say that although my rose list is current on HMF, I am pretty sure the list above includes the only ones I can legally send cuttings of. I think. The French and South African ones are a possibility too, but those are going to be brand new (not even here yet), so those won't make good trades yet anyways.

I can make anything survive here if I really want it to.....it would have to be special to put in the extra work, though. I'll look at your list on HMF. I have lists here and there also. Thanks so much for trading! I've been having a hard time finding people to trade with lately.

There are a few roses that I've been trying to get for like 15 years now....Anna Pavlova, Sir Frederick Ashton, Temptation... and a few others. If you ever happen to stumble on someone trading them, let me know, if you think of it. I'll do the same for you if you have some like that.

Ok - FYI, we may have folks here who don't know that it is illegal to send plants or plant materials into California (unless there's proper inspection and certificates). There can be fines for the SENDER "The importation or smuggling into California of live plants and plant product, or unapproved, uninspected, or uncertified wild or domesticated animals, whether as pets or livestock, will have serious legal and financial consequences for the persons involved. These activities are prohibited as they could result in potentially damaging impacts to California's agriculture and environment." https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/plant/pe/transport_animals_plants.html This is why we have agricultural inspection stations say when you drive in from Nevada that ask if you have plant material with you. I know they don't teach it in the schools, so there may be people unaware. It's also why Houzz has the disclaimer on all trading forums.
