Summer vacation advice....Texas heat and leaving my roses!

Last summer we didn't leave Texas, and I watered by hand daily and still lost a few. This year, HOPEFULLY it won't be so dreaded hot...although not promising lately. But, we are leaving for two weeks.

I am planning on turning the sprinkler system on every other day for 45 minutes a zone. (I have drip irrigation in raised beds and sprinkler for lawn area grass and roses).

Any advice? Should I just turn it on every day? Or perhaps every other day but for a longer period?

I plan on experimenting in this next month to see what appears to be best, but thought I would ask what y'all found, if anyone has done this same thing.

Yes, I could get a neighbor to check on them, but really, unless you know what you are doing, signs of wilt are not apparent to the untrained eye, and after all...they are just plants.

anyway...SPRINKLER ADVISE, or any other tricks you recommend.

I have even been experimenting with shading some of the areas with lawn chairs and poking pin sized holes in gallon milk jugs and seeing how long that trickle lasts....
