My new house has the same setup - won't be finished for another 6 months so I can't say I have any experience with it. I can tell you that I always assumed the washer was next to the sink. This is how it's been in my last two houses. This is how the new house was supposed to be according to the plans. Then the day the plumber started working he had some questions about the master shower so I left work to go meet with him. He did mention to me that "they" had decided to switch the washer/dryer. I thought no big deal, it's fine. Then after more thinking it started to really bug me. Apparently the super was asked and he made the decision to switch because that is how they have their setup. Again - not a big deal, I don't use the sink much anyway. I currently have top loads but plan to get front loads some point after we move in. I started thinking about the door swing and if they are reversible. I'm glad to hear some are but disappointed that some aren't. This will definitely be a factor when I start seriously looking.

@HU-410414692 Thanks so much for explaining why clothing and household items I've washed for years in cold, now shrink in Samsung's version of "cold". I've ruined too many loved items, things I've ALWAYS machine-washed. So thinking it must have been my error, and I'd forgotten to change the temp setting, I'd try it again. After several such shrinkage mishaps, I knew for certain I was using the cold setting. So I no longer wash anything shrinkable in my machine, even on delicate. I live in Southern California on a raised foundation house. The water doesn't get that cold in the first place, so if this machine adds warm water, as you explained, then I'm screwed for washing wools. I suppose I could wash on delicate in cold on very cold days in winter only and keep my fingers crossed. But it's not worth the risk. And that doesn't happen that often anyway. This shrinkage was the first thing I called Samsung about when I first bought the set. Samsung sent out a repairman because it was under warranty and he couldn't find anything wrong. (roll eyes). The company line was deny, deny, deny. I was so concerned about the machine destroying my things that I forgot to ask about the front coming off every time I opened the detergent drawer. I solved that issue by never using liquids At this point, the set is barely functioning as a washer and dryer for me. I might as well beat my clothes on rocks and dry them on tree branches. If I had the money for a new set, I'd set these on fire, I hate them that much. And I couldn't in good faith sell them to anyone else. Anyone considering buying Samsung: Please reconsider. Like I've posted a few times before, clothes washers are saving far more energy and water than necessary to earn the Energy Star rating. They're doing it to earn a $250/unit tax credit, paid directly to the manufacturer. In theory, this gives the industry an incentive to build efficient washers that consumers are willing to buy. But just about everyone thinks that today's overly-efficient washers are required by law, so they think they're powerless to reject them. Therefore, the industry gets their tax credit ($250/unit is a lot of money) while letting us think we have no choice. Even the Home Editor of Consumer Reports didn't believe it at first, when I told him how the system works. Now CR knows about it, but won't educate the public by including the facts in their reports.

Carlos the Simple Green will get rid of the gasoline smell and petroleum products. It will break them down so they can be rinsed out of your machine. It will smell like simple green for a few washes after you use the simple green. If you haven't ever used it just get a bottle and open it. It has its own smell that is very distinct. That will dissipate over a few washes with some old towels and regular laundry detergent. Another thing is laundry detergents with scents and fabric softeners added will coat a washing machine and your clothes. So you may have some residue from that also causing the gasoline smell to actually hang around. After the simple green try the cheapest unscented laundry detergent you can find at Walmart. Its usually in a box and no name. Make sure its scent free and it won't have any added junk in it to clog pores in your washing machine tub or your clothes.
