Ditch the tub. You don't have room for it. Make a nice shower.

What style of free standing tub? Can you post a pic? I like the tub placement under the window.

If I'm reading it correctly you only have 27" between your tub and your vanity. That isn't enough room.

You keep saying 27". How do you arrive at that number? I have 90-32-24=34 even with kitchen sized cabinets for the vanity.

Milly, most 6x32freestanding tubs spec for closer to 38" clearance so subtract at least 6 inches from your total. I also did use a deeper vanity for preference reasons but still with a narrow vanity and clearance from back wall for a six ft freestanding my architect suggested that there was not enough space in an 8x13 area with a door in that position to have all the bells and whistles. Her plan is not accounting for any structural clearances.

I don't think you need a wall between toilet and tub. We have a similar setup; toilet next to freestanding tub, no wall. It works fine, looks fine, no space issues. If you wanted a little more breathing space, you could go with a 60" or 65" tub.

Well, the inspector WILL have a say about this. Because, of course, you are getting the required permits and inspections, right? Or are you just throwing 80K in a hole? Because an unpermitted and uninspected bathroom that doesn't physically work will be a giant red flag at resale, and at a minimum, someone is going to want enough off of the price to redo it completely. At a maximum, it will bring out the microscope to look for any other hacks that someone did to the house. And, looks like they I'll find them if this is any example.

Think about it your having a relaxing time in the tub - do you really want to look at the toilet? I would do a minimum of a half wall and that could add storage.

Or.. What about placing the toilet beside the door and having the opposing wall for the tub & shower. The door swing needs to be shown to help with the layout. Is there another tub in the house?

You weren't asking me, but my math is the same: You start with 90".

4-6" for the exterior wall depending upon the construction ... the interior wall is 4", and half of that must be absorbed by the bathroom /the other half goes with the bedroom's space ... so the walls require 6-8" (again, depending upon the construction of the exterior).

32" for the tub and the OP says the vanity /counter top overhang are 23" ... that's 55" for those two items.

That leaves 27-29" of walking space.

You can't expect the conversation not to "wander". It always does, and the matter of walking space is going to come up eventually ... better to consider it now.

If you're going with a freestanding tub, I vote yes for the pony wall. It won't matter so much in terms of function, but it'll keep things "looking cleaner" instead of having the tub and the toilet all at that end of the room. OR you could make the pony wall with storage inside -- you need someplace for toilet paper. ALSO, if you ever need grab bars by the toilet, the pony wall would allow them to be on both sides. I'd make it narrow with a bit of counter top ... just enough for a couple candles.

I'm a little confused about the type of tub too. It does make a difference.

Regardless, with space at a premium, I'd consider a smaller tub. I have a standard builder-basic tub in my current house, and, while I want a deeper tub, I have no problem with the dimensions: 60x30. Its size is fine for an average person. A smaller tub fills faster, and -- being short -- I don't "slide down" like I do in a longer tub. Bigger isn't always better.

I'd think you'd arrange the tub so that your head would be by the window, which means the toilet would be behind you. Regardless, I don't understand the desire to pretend toilets don't exist.

New question: What's going in that blank space at the end of the shower? I'm guessing it's a small, deep closet. Or will you enter the shower from the narrow end?

Yes, toilets exist but I don't want my head that close to the bowl and if possible I like them partially screened.

Like Sophie says make a nicer shower. The one you have is too narrow for comfort if you are going to use glass doors. I have a 36" width shower pan by Kohler. I wouldn't want it any narrower. You loose width with the wall, tile, and glass door as it has to be recessed a bit in from the edge of the pan. I have some elbow room because I have a niche that is the length of my 5' shower at elbow height. I would go for width on the shower rather than length. I don't need the 5' length really.

If this room is measured from the studs, you don't have room for a stud wall with the location of the tub and toilet as you have them drawn. If you used a 5' tub it would work. I would think a pony wall would be a good choice, and as mentioned above, a good place to plan extra storage in.

I don't like the way the tub is located in relationship to the shower. You will really need to plan this space out. I don't want to make it a trap for dust, that you can't get to for cleaning. The way you have it, you only have about 4" of space between the shower and the end of the tub.

You can get integrated 2-sided tubs or deck mount. I would absolutely NOT do freestanding in such a case. It's just not possible for any kind of cleaning. Drop in tub plus wall flange works fine for this installation though if you can't find 2 wall. My plan allows for a deck mounted filler in a pony wall type scenario at the end of the bathtub, but there are other possibilities.

Those measurements are to studs, not to the opposite drywall, aren't they? 91 and x/4 (can't read x) minus 2 sheets of drywall gets to 90 and x/4. Unless she is measuring really weird!!!!

You can mount a deck faucet on the tub itself if you get the right tub. It works just fine. You can also mount it on the end of the tub or get one that is wall-mounted. You can have a wall tub spout just fine with a 2-wall tub.

I am 5'6" and I love my super deep 66" tub. :). I think 6' would be even better, but I can't fit it, so I'm not sure. Mine are all 36" wide because all tubs 66" long are 36", standard. The effective width is much smaller in my jetted tub, and that's my favorite because it's the deepest and fills the fastest.

If I were ever so fat that I could not physically fit in a standard tub, I hope my children would have the sense of mercy to put me out of my misery, because I would have certainly also lost my mind to do that to my body. Besides, my older house has several 28" doors, and my (old) stairs aren't safe for someone that large as they were grandfathered in. Probably couldn't fit through the doors and would break through the stairs, so moot point.

Tub is 31.25 wide and freestanding with deck mounted faucet. It is also only 68' long. It is not a drop in. I do not want ONLY a 'nicer shower,' as we will have a plenty nice one regardless. It will be 36" wide, as I realize it says 32 in the drawing. It can go all the way wall to wall, or we can fill the 'dead space' with a linen cabinet, etc.The door will be barn style and will not swing into the space. The toilet cannot be moved to the other side of the room.

Thanks for the clarification. The 36" wide will be fine, imho. What if you put the tub along the right side and the shower along the top wall. Then you might have some open space at the window for deco table. Some have used a 4' long shower pan with success and really like it.

Are you shower people or tub people?

I like that you use "paper dolls" for your plan, so you can move them around. I did that when I was planning my initial layout. It was very quick and easy. I took pictures of each one to compare.

Place toilet next to shower (appears to have space) - center tub under window. Consider pocket door so it isn't hitting toilet.

I would do what Pat suggests. The toilet is tucked in at the end of the shower, the tub is centered under the window and you could even increase the depth of the shower a bit if you want, which I would do. You could shorten it a bit (not sure if you need a full 5' wide shower) and increase the depth for more comfort. I would have a full wall between the end of the shower and toilet, for privacy and so the plumbing could be on an interior wall.

eta, oops, just saw where you said toilet can't be moved.

Could the shower be moved down to the far corner, made a bit deeper and shortened a bit? Then you could move the tub to the right a few inches and add a wall beside the toilet.

I wish Id seen this post long ago. you absolutley CAN make a ponywall as thin as using 2x2’s to frame and wall paneling to cover. you can raise it as high as you feel comfortable and the best part is adding a wide cap that can hold a plant or two.

Smaller tub, close in the toilet. Icky.
