I like to pack behind the spout with plumber's putty for extra security. If I have forgotten to so do, and the spout is already installed, I would pack a thick ring around the pipe from the backside (via access panel). Seal outer edge with a small bead of silicone, leaving the bottom open to let any water out. Mask it first with tape, apply bead, smooth with a wet finger, remove tape, wet finger again and smooth gently one more time. Also, a small squeeze tube is better and easier than a tube that requires a caulk gun. I wouldn't worry about the shower spout, but you can pack some putty behind the trim ring (escutcheon) if you like. This post was edited by homebound on Sat, Nov 9, 13 at 23:38

I find when they function for hair rinsing they are better than the standard small head because I am not only getting clean I am also engulfed in warmth and the experience is quite comforting. I dislike my large one for cleaning and do not wish to waste water just to get the relaxing benefit which is why I despise that one. I would happily change it to another better pressured head but it is my bald husband's favorite. Many bath show rooms have multiple tubs and shower experiences to try. Just bring a bathing suit and towel. Or read the reviews for the ones you are considering at least because some are truly blissful in form and function while others do not function aswell.

Rainshower heads produce more water which leads to an increased need for the right size drain so it can drain efficiently. Also, you mentioned you just remodeled a bathroom, was a tub converted to a shower? If that was the case the shower requires 2" pipe in comparison to a tub which only needs 1 1/2". so the portion of the pipe must be changed to a 2" pipe.

My guess would be a tile installer, but I think that type of shower pan construction is a long gone skill. There are so many better products available now that I can't imagine someone using hot asphalt and roofing paper to build a shower pan. Bruce
