two story foyers
Comments (11)Technically a *traditional centerhall colonial would be pretty unlikely to have a two story foyer: the stairwell might be open, but the entry to the front bedrooms would be at the front of the house ( above the front door ) and any ornamental window above the entry door would be in the upper stair hall. Unless the hall is large and gracefully proportioned, the two story foyer often ends up as an awkward toaster slot of a space that is hard to decorate with a window that is hard to treat and clean, and corners filled with cobwebs. imo....See Moreneed paint color advice for 2 story foyer ceiling
Comments (6)Funcolors thank you for your reply. After reading many of your posts here I'm happy to get your knowledgeable advice. :) I've tried out 9 different paint samples and looked at probably 100 tan/beiges before finding Sierra Hills so glad to hear my choice is a good one. :) Seirra Hills looks close to SW Nomadic Desert to me on paint chip which is one up from Latte. I've thought about getting sample of it. What would you say would be different in these two colors? We are painting the upstairs hallway the same color. What should we do about the hallway ceiling? I don't want it to be too dark going down the long hallway. Should I leave it the off white or paint it a shade or two lighter then the foyer. We had changed the original house plans to add a office downstairs and bedroom upstairs so this is how the foyer struture ended up. There is a wide ledge/shelf under window then the front door below. The walls have needed painting for a long time so I'm excited to get it done soon. Nancy...See MoreNeed help with chandelier in two story foyer please!
Comments (12)Sorry, I have to disagree with the others and say it's definitely permissible to hang the chandelier where you propose. No one is going to see the chain through the window, and the light should be down where the people are so it can give light to them. Well, I love two-story chandeliers and I LOVE palladian windows more than I can say. And I love big Williamsburg brass chandeliers. I have all three in this house, LOL, and my chandelier is hanging with the tip of its bottom about 8.5' off the floor. The chain is not visible through the window. Two decorators and a very smart lighting store owner have told me this is permissible, so I'm sticking with it. You mention getting a small fixture. How small? You want to make sure it's not too tiny for the space it will be filling. Now that would be bad! LOL. Light store lady and decorator #1 once told me the formula for size vs. space, but I do not remember, sorry....See MoreI need help with this two story foyer wall color.....ideas please.
Comments (16)Yes, to your first question. You can see the lower TV room ceiling here and how it opens to the foyer. That walkway measures 47" width ( including future baseboard.) I thought a post against that wall would balance the newel on the other side and allow for a "separation" between spaces? I don't know what the color should do in this area? My husband wants the darker brown for the TV room. Also, our color "cocoa" drives me crazy- it goes pinky (flesh beige) with an east facing window light-(the picture below was taken this morning) and goes blue(brown) and relaxed in the evening with sconce/lamp light. I love the color in the evening. Most mornings, I think I need to repaint! Thanks for your interest....See MoreRelated Professionals
