Need help with paint choices two story foyer w/chair rail
Comments (32)I wanted to post some after photos and thank everyone who took the time to comment. It turns out that the wall was "indented" when we removed the chair rail so my DH has spent several weekends to build it back up with joint compound and texture it to blend in with the walls. It was a painfully tedious process (first trying to do it by hand, then with a sponge, then with spray-on compound that dribbled everywhere, and finally with a trowel lightly loading dabs of compound on). If you look closely you can still tell, but it's not as glaring as it was several iterations ago. Suffice to say, we are thrilled to be done with sanding, priming, texturing, and painting! Now, I need to figure out what wall decor to put up as the removal of the chair rail makes it a much easier space to deal with! Any and all advice would be appreciated. I was thinking of doing a photo gallery near the front entry, but that is a HUGE wall and I don't know that I can put photos high enough where you can still see them but not so low that the wall looks off-balance. Forgive the quality of the photos, taken without a flash on my iPhone....See More2-story foyer finally painted!
Comments (7)Thank you for the nice comments. : ) It is so rich and warm--I am loving it. I only wish I wasn't such a perfectionist--I notice the flaws too. But I know that most anyone who walks in won't be looking for them/at them. I should put out a public "thank you" to members of this board for suggesting Carrington Beige. I was looking at something even warmer, and it was pointed out to me (correctly so!) that it wouldn't work with my runner and upstairs hall carpet. I had worried the Carrington would look more grey, and it certainly doesn't! Lynn, I'm thinking something warm and beige/gold for the dining room, too. I could go green, but I wonder if it might be too dark against the moss green end chairs. I'm open to all suggestions--as long as they will look good with Carrington Beige. : ) The small living room (in back of the dining room) has the same color scheme, though more transitional furniture. I don't know much about the wood. This was not a custom home. We bought it 95% finished. The floors are oak. I don't know any more than that. I'm sorry! The little boy is my 4 1/2 year-old, Joshua. : ) He has a 7 year-old older brother named Jack. : )...See MoreGray paint color for large two story foyer
Comments (11)Hi there! I’m in a similar situation, except that our 2 story foyer faces north and doesn’t get much light. The floors are a white oak stained walnut. The adjacent north facing family room will be painted BM stonington gray (to complement the south facing dining room, which will be painted BM Newburyport Blue). I was planning on painting the foyer and upstairs hallway BM Wickham Gray. But after reading several articles about northern exposure, I’m second guessing the Wicham Gray. Trying to keep all the light in, and not darken the entry. Any suggestions / thoughts for the 2 story foyer??...See Moretwo-story foyer, need help choosing white paint for judges panel
Comments (4)I was going to suggest White Dove. Another option is Benjamin Moore Cloud White. Chantilly Lace OC-65 Here is a sample of these three popular colors with their shades....See MoreRelated Professionals
