Weeds? Or something to keep?

Not sure what these plants are, if they are weeds or something else. The first one sprang up from a planter that I had put a perennial in.

Thought it was going to flower but the round-bally things that look like buds did nothing.

This one cropped up early in the summer. I want to say it looks like a eucalyptus of some kind. But, before just removing it I wanted to be sure.

Thoughts?

The 1st one is a chenopodium.

yes, chenopodium, lamb's quarters, and believe it or not it is in bloom, the second one looks to me like maybe an amaranthus of some sort or something related

They grow all over my yard. Very easy to control. Just pull them up. The smaller ones are identifiable by their red stems as well.

Best way--and hardest work--is to just keep pulling the bermuda grass out. Water well, then start pulling when the soil firms and water has soaked in a bit. There are a number of herbicides that target grasses, however few of them have labels for flower beds. In some cases, the grass herbicides will also have some activity against certain broadleaves, so if you go off-label and just try something, you might get a few of your flowers as well. You might look at Preen in a small area as it is recommended for grasses, but don't know what it may do to the plants you want.

It's a weed, sorry. :~) We have LOTS of it, at our new place at the edge of the hill country; wherever we have piled up dirt and rocks ready to landscape it has sprouted and gets 5-6 feet tall. The blooms aren't very exciting. I believe it is horseweed, aka marestail. Many pics on links show it in the rosette stage or don't show a good picture of it, but this one should look somewhat familiar. Hmmm... I'm not sure what the plant looks like, someone I work sent the picture to me to see if I knew what it was, it just popped up and he wasn't sure if it was a weed or something worth keeping. I give him your suggestions and let him research it. Cherie

Really?? Wow, never would have guessed! And interesting it can attract leaf miners, maybe I should move this closer to my squash since they have gotten a few leaf miners.
I take it the chenopodium isn't seeding yet? Lol, if I can't tell it's in bloom I get the feeling I will miss the seeds.

As for the second one, I guess we'll have to see since I've not seen any buds on it. Only nice thing about both is, the squirrels have left them alone.

The second one looks like pigweed, a type of Amaranthus, but it isn't blooming yet. Both are common garden weeds and can seed prolifically.

maybe I should move this closer to my squash since they have gotten a few leaf miners.

==>> i would encourage neither in any way ....

and forget about leaf miners.. i am not aware of them ever significantly damaging a plant.. besides.. they make a plain old green plant variegated .. lol ... many peeps pay extra for foo foo variegated plants ...
