Just when I thought I was done for the year!
Comments (8)Imabirdnut, I don't water my Rue at all once it gets established. Even in the drought this summer, I just ignored it. It did great - much better than had I watered it even the smallest bit. Are you growing it in the ground or in pots? I did not have any luck with it in pots either. It likes partial shade and very dry soil, with some clay in it, rather than potting mix in pots. It bloomed like crazy this summer with not water and quite a bit of shade in my backyard, but it has taken some experimentation to figure out its likes and dislikes, and it is also a short-lived perennial - 5 or 6 years max - after which it gets very woody and won't resprout from the woody stems. In the Northern zones it can take a lot more sun, but from the upper south to warmer zones it prefers some shade fromn our hot sun. I may have actually bought 'Attraction' which I believe is smaller in size. As long as the butterflies like it, whichever it is, is okay with me, too. I had a Nanho Blue that did not attract them at all, so I hope to avoid that problem....See MoreJust when I thought.....
Comments (7)My sympathies. Goodness. Count me in with the fence crowd. What is that saying about good fences make good neighbors or some such? However, as pointed out, fences don't solve everything. I think mine is a 6 ft privacy fence. I live on a slope that looks down on the house behind me. My dogs (especially one) notice everything...they can see into several yards. They aren't out much (house varmints) and I am usually with them when they are. I have found an arrow in my yard/garden from the kid on the back corner. A real arrow, mind you...the kind that could cause harm. I made it a point to stand on my deck where he could see me and watch him practice...and he was very careful, had his target positioned the other way...I've kept the arrow. Directly behind is an obnoxious child who yells out "stupid dog" at the top of her lungs...not so much lately, as my neighbor on one side (both of my neighbors on either side are wonderful people...I am very lucky)...happened to be outside when she (the child) yelled this (the mother was out with her...)...and my neighbor said to me (very loudly...they already know about this), "Who is that RUDE person?" The mother and daughter went in shortly after that...and amazingly, not much has been heard since. I would love to live without neighbors so close (although I would miss my great neighbors)just so my dogs could be dogs (they are extremely well behaved). However, they are getting old now (the dogs....me, too...lol) and we are comfortable here. Ladypat, you did the right thing in reporting this to the police. That sure sounded threatening to me. I would definitely go ahead with the fence (as high as you can make it) and watch the dogs while outside, too. Look at it this way, the fence will also keep you from seeing things over there that you'd rather not. I think I would not answer the door when that neighbor comes over. I am sorry this is happening to you. Sometimes it seems the police have their hands tied...until something bad happens. We lived in a nice new neighborhood some years ago that started having some vandalism issues. Someone broke into my husband's truck (parked in our driveway). We called the police and they were very nice, very responsive. But, basically, we were advised to put out security lights, motion detectors, etc. I remember thinking...wait a minute, we're the victims and we have to take all the actions, spend all this money to keep lawbreakers out?? But, that's the way it is... Take care now....See MoreJust when I thought I was doing better
Comments (2)I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom. I know how you feel, I lost my Mom one year ago from March and we had to go through her things too. It is so hard to go through the things. It is a process where everything you touch has a memory. For me it was like you want to hold onto EVERYTHING and cherish those things, knowing that's all you have left. But on the other hand, once you touched her things, her private things, you feel like you violated her space, like you were someplace you shouldn't be. And for us, once everything was handled, moved around, and them emptied, it just wasn't home anymore. We had disturbed everything. The only thing I can really suggest is just get through it, and give yourself time to grieve, share, and process along the way. Take everything that you think you may possibly want. I took alot of my Mom's, but there were a couple things I wish I had taken that I didn't. Many of Mom and Dad's things I have around in my home. And many are still in a box. But somehow it brings me comfort to just know that they are there. I have my Mom's pillow. I don't know how she slept on it, it's kind of like a lumpy, heavy sack. But it is under my pillow on my bed and when I really miss her, I can hold it, and remember Mom holding it, and I kind of feel like I'm holding her. For me, there is a loss - a hole in my life that will NEVER be filled. And I cry when I think of her. But I don't cry everyday anymore so I guess that is better. I will think of you as you go through this and I wish you comfort in the coming days. Joanie...See MoreJust when I thought I was done with faucets
Comments (3)Astrid: The Kohler Bakersfield is 30x21 overall and the bowl measurement is 27x15x8. Wouldn't the 15 be across the sink, back to front? And, so you figure a little over half of that (7.5 to 8 inches) would be the reach you're talking about? Now I'm wondering if the sink is too narrow. What do you think? Unfortunately, I won't see this sink or faucet to measure until I get to the states - we leave Saturday for Christmas holiday so I will be able to do some looking around. I hope I can see the Franke bowls that you mentioned, too. I haven't totally dismissed them. Thanks for all your input and making me think a little more about this!...See Moreaprilneverends
