Do you dress 'right' or 'left?'
Comments (5)Along similiar lines, I'm much more 'comfortable' creating group plantings and saikei that flow left to right vs right to left. The same is true to a lesser degree for creating slanted, informal and cascade styles. It 'bothers' me more in groups and saikei because their flows are usually stronger than individual trees. Off center potting, either left or right, is not bothersome for some reason. I've been told this relates to ones dominate eye. Mine is the left eye. Comments (4)One apartment I used to live in did have the tub facing the other way, although the room was arranged toilet/sink/tub rather than the more common sink/toilet/tub. Now that I think of it, it was kind of convenient to be able to reach the tub/shower controls without leaning around the sink (or toilet as it may be). For some reason, I slightly prefer right drain in general though......See MoreLeft-side dryer, right-side washer
Comments (49)>>>"Wouldn’t it be cheaper and open your choice of washer options to pay a contractor/plumber/drywall guy to swap the connections around"<<< Might be, which is why I mentioned the SQ price. Especially so if HU##### wants a matching dryer and adds in the relatively high cost of Speed Queen's dryer versus, say, spending a lot less to get one of the Electrolux models with reversible washer doors (EFLS427, 527, and 627., IIRC) and their matching dryers. Also, I'm recalling that our local Home Depot has some of the new GE "fresh vent" (or maybe "Ultra Vent") front load washer models, and one or two of of those GEs now have reversible doors on the washer. (At least Home Depot said they did.) Sorry, can't recall model numbers at the moment but might be worth your while to check on. Despite the high price, Speed Queen FL models do have a devoted following for reasons outlined in this older thread and this other one. The SQ FL models come with a full five year factory warranty, too. But bear in mind that, if warranty service is needed for some reason, it goes through the selling dealer. So, it is best to check out your local vendors rather than buying a SQ on-line from an out-of-area seller. If you buy from an out-of-town online vendor, and are not inclined to DIY repairs (the SQ's are easy to work on, IME), getting SQ to arrange local warranty service reportedly can be slow and cumbersome. Those considerations might or might not make the Electrolux and GE models seem more attractive choices....See MorePlease Vote for left side or right side to go with leaded glass
Comments (27)I hope I don't come off too offensive but I see these posts occasionally on here and while I understand the frustration the poster may be experiencing I don't feel asking a web discussion board to 'pick' something for you is really the best way to get what YOU want. As you can see there are as many opinions as people here, no one but you and your family will be living in YOUR home. To me it's all very personal, I like to think I'm the one making the important decisions. I'm also a bit of a rogue and a risk taker, if I pick something that doesn't work, I'll be the one adjusting to it or changing it. How else are you going to influence others with something a bit different or open someones eyes to a possibility? I certainly don't want my kitchen to be like anyone else's, I want the unencumbered freedom to look at what I like. I have the confidence to step out of the box and see the bigger picture, I think a lot of people on here feel similarly. I will admit that my kitchen has changed a LOT since I've been reading GW (new build). There are a lot of fantastic ideas floating about on this site and I certainly appreciate them all. Like they say 'trust your gut', if it feels right do it. 3 people might hate it but 10 people may love it. At the end of the day it's YOURS and you have to live w/it. I just couldn't look at something 20 times a day and say "I had no idea what to put there so I let them decide for me", I'd feel like an imbecile. That's one of the reasons I've never posted a picture of anything or my layout (I designed the house myself), I really don't care what the opinions of others are regarding MY space. My DW chose the master as she knew the kitchen was mine, we bounced things off of each other and family but we've been around long enough to know what we want and how it should work and to give each other the freedom of choice. I understand some people don't have confidence in there choices, aesthetic, or style but I think it would be cool if every one just did they're own thing and then compared notes. I would imagine some old 'truths' would fly out the window and all of our eyes would be open a little wider with the possibilities. Again, no intent to offend, hope I didn't. I may even be out of line :) If so sorry. MM...See MoreCor
