Lennox vs Trane vs Rheem Heat Pump systems
Comments (4)After reading more carefully, it seems your sizing estimates are all over the place, from 2.5 ton (Lennox), to 3 ton (Trane), to 4 ton (Rheem). A properly done load calculation is necessary to get the equipment size right, especially since you've made changes to your home's structure. Now would also be a good time to have your ductwork balanced so that each room gets the required airflow per the load calculation. Before investing money in a new system, it is very important to ensure your new system is operating at its rated capacity and efficiency....See MoreLennox Heat Pump Quote - is this reasonable?
Comments (8)A nice system and reasonably detailed proposal. The XP17 is a very quiet system and does have electronic demand defrost, which will greatly limit the amount of defrost cycles (better for equipment, efficiency, and comfort). For the most part your proposal seems fairly standard to me (both work scope and price wise). I am in your area as well (Montgomery County). I suggest you call the following company as well for a proposal (link below) -- do yourself a favor and set up an appointment with Chris. They do good work (and no I am not employed by them :-) ). I would get a proposal for an XR15 or XL15i with matching TAM7 variable speed air handler. While I do like Lennox equipment, I am not keen on the fact that their coils are still copper/aluminum as opposed to all-aluminum and certainly hope this changes soon as most manufacturers have begun doing so (Trane and Goodman to name a couple). Copper/aluminum coils have historically had leaking issues (as you've seen in your own system) due to pitting corrosion on the copper as well as galvanic corrosion between the Cu/Al. Aluminum coils are immune to the issue (not to say they cannot leak). With that said, Lennox still makes solid equipment, and your primary focus should always be finding the best company to do the work. Most all brands offer a 10 year factory parts warranty now. Any problematic areas upstairs to heat/cool that may be due to ductwork issues (that can be addressed at the time of replacement)? The variable speed air handler will help move the air better, but proper duct design still matters. Its size, insulation value, layout, etc. all matter very much to the overall performance/efficiency of the system. Many home systems are lacking in this area. Attic in the ductwork especially needs to be sealed/insulated well. Comments (2)Thanks Ryan for answering me. Yes, it's $4500 and $6800 for a total of $11,300 less the rebate total of $2170...so total cost $9130. We thought it was high but have used this company for over 25 years. Today we got a different company to give a quote on the same product and it was within $150 of this one. So I'm thinking that is what they charge us West Coast people?! Do you think the Lennox is better than the American Standard or York?...See MoreTax Credits Trane and Lennox Heat Pumps
Comments (3)What concerns me is them quoting very large backup heat furnaces. I'd be surprised if you needed over 100k backup heat. Was a load calc performed? Lennox or Trane either way you would get a good system if installed properly and sized properly. I sure hope Trane would make some changes. 2-stage would be beneficial for humidity control, but not necessary by any means. What coil was quoted for the Lennox setup? If using a Lennox CX34-49C coil, the G60UHV-60C-110 furnace would make the system qualify. If they use an Aspen coil they don't have to oversize the furnace....See Moredadoes
