Do your kitchen cabinets go all the way to the ceiling?
Comments (47)the KD said he will install a "cabinet board" slightly over the face of the cabinet that will extend to almost the ceiling. I suppose the bottom edge of the board will have a sculpted edge. then he will use 4" crown molding at top. He also wanted to install small trim mid way up to "break up the blandness of the panel to ceiling" as he put it. ... Has anyone seen this ? If so, can you post a close up picture ? It sounds somewhat similar to what we did with the 9" space above our cabs ... fascia with rope trim partway up, then the molding to ceiling. These pics might help you with the idea, although your taste may run more simply vs the rope molding (personally I love it and it was one of my must haves :))...See More10ft Ceilings - Run Cabinets All the Way to Ceiling?
Comments (26)I love the look of your kitchen, babs, I think the open space above is a great look. Unless you have money to burn AND a too-large kitchen, I vote for 8 to 8.5 ft of cabinets with cove lighting above. What does cove lighting do? It gives soft indirect light which is always more flattering than high wattage central bulbs. Plus for smaller kitchens it highlights the openness of your ceilings and turns dark, murky shadows above the cabinets into a pleasant accent feature. I love all your stacked/stacked look pics above, guys, especially with the backlit top row. But worth the extra money over cove lighting? Probably not unless you have an unlimited budget or you've REALLY REALLY gotta have it. Then you probably should get it. :) Davif...See MoreHow to fill gap at the back of Ikea kitchen cabinets.
Comments (8)Okay, I should have been more detailed. Here's a pic of what the end of my peninsula will look like but if possible, I'd like to leave off the cover panel and just use the door as I like that look better. I *think* the door will cover everything well enough to do that but I won't know for sure until I assemble the cabinets. On the end of the run where there is a gap I guess I will have to use the cover panel to close the space. Do you think that will look weird for one to be one way and the other not match?...See MoreHow best to fill the space above cabinets with decor?
Comments (30)"No one has mentioned so far that the dust that shows up above kitchen cabinets is GREASY dust. Super yucky, and hard to get off." Gas stoves are the worst for this...but my experience was it only appeared directly above the stove. For sure the type of hood/ventilation one has would make a huge difference. I just packed #1DDs kitchen for a move to a new home. The open shelving above the stove top was GROSS along with everything on it. No where else. My crystal, described earlier in this thread, was never greasy. Here in our 'forever' home I have a soffit that holds a set of God Bless America plates. They get cleaned once a year and the only ones with any grease are directly above the electric stove top, and it's not a big deal. Dawn soap is your friend!!...See MoreMs. Spence
