Monitors - is the USB Display Link a plus?
Comments (10)Thanks all, I went back to the owbist provided link and see it is a series of video clips and looking at more than the first one I get the "big" or "multiple" picture. I do not have any current plan to use multiple monitors, I was just looking for a monitor for use with my Notebook, which has a 15" display, and my wife's new Netbook which has a 10.1" display. The monitor I am considering mostly on a price/availability (can see hands on at local BJs) has a Display Link feature. It also has the unusual design to sit on the desktop, not up on a stand.. which it claims is best suited my application. Figured the Display Link is just a plus... not sure if it requires more video muscle in my computers over what is required for a VGA. The Display Link software does seem to also offer optimization of the computer/monitor interface. A plus, I think. I got a reject on my post for some reason, so I added "again" to the subject to see if I can get through....See MoreDIY Monitor Stand
Comments (6)I saw what you probably want somewhere made for laptops. Think most likely it was OfficeDepot. Convenient for me is OfficeDepot, Staples, BestBuy. But office depot is the best place to be ignored and easiest to buy something. You would probably need to adapt it for the remote monitor. Basicly it had two different ways to order for the base of it. The base I wanted was a weighted base that was designed to roll under the sofa or side of chair. It had a fold down, swing out, twist any direction, tension spring loaded lockable articulated arm with a shelf for the laptop. fwiw... My old desktop computer, I just took a piece of paneling and covered it with formica and made it perfect size for my keyboard and a mouse pad.. It was my lapDesk... works fine....See MoreLED tv vs computer monitor for playing games
Comments (5)There are 4K computer monitors, but many "run of the mill" PC monitors can run higher than 1080p, for example, my 23" monitor has a max resolution of 2560 x 1440 compared to 1920 x 1080 "full HD". That's 1.77 times the pixels. Not quite 4K 3840 x 2160 but noticeably more detail if your PC's graphics card can handle it. Resolution isn't the only thing either. You have to look at screen refresh rates as a powerful PC can run games at 90+ frames per second. Most reasonably priced 4K TV's have a native refresh rate of 60Hz. (regardless if they claim 120 or 240, that's just a marketing gimmick) That being said, you really need to be a game geek to really care. As a casual gamer, I've played games on mediocre systems at 30FPS 1080p and it looked good and played good to me personally. Cheap TV's will also have cheap LCD panels with uneven LED backlighting - creating a halo around the whole screen. The cheap panels will also blur more on fast action. I guess what it boils down to is what you want to pay for either. But a good TV will look great and can do more if it is web enabled. For a college kid where space is at a premium a TV may be the way to go....See MoreHelp me fit three monitors in this space
