To my eye, it's either/both the frame and the mat. They cause the print to blend right into the wall. Can you take a close up of the print, including just a bit of the wall behind it and post it? Perhaps one of the rug also, as the pics are dark and we really can't see the details.

The mat and frame blend in to the wall color. It's not bad, just a little bland.

I think the matte color is off. It blend right in to your wall color. Maybe go with a bolder or darker color matte and get a thicker frame that will make it heftier.

It is a lovely piece of art.

I'll take additional photos this afternoon when there is more natural light in the room so I can get better quality. I totally agree it is bland....but if I can change out matting or frame I may try to make it work. I'll be back later.

There is nothing really wrong with it, it is a 1980's way of framing. Whether you change it might depend on the style of the rest of your home.

I'm attaching some photos that hopefully are a little more clear and give a sense of other areas in the room. aktillery, I'm sort of with you that a different mat/bulkier frame might be the ticket...just not sure what.

This is the rug...which was really out of my typical style but I'm growing interested in more color in my life! I could just as easily do an oriental style rug as I love those as well.

Although I think it looks fine as is, I think a better frame/mat will make it more current looking. What I thought immediately was that the art is centered on that wall but the table and back of the chair and light fixture aren't. It (the table) is not offset enough to be "balanced", it just all looks out of alignment to me. Any chance you could turn the table to run the opposite way without interfering with a walkway next to it. That will make the wall look offset from the table instead of just not quite wide enough for the space.

Olychick, the light fixture is not centered over the table, and part of the reason I'm thinking of a round or smaller table is that it would fit the space better. I get what you are saying. The table would not fit the other way.

As I've been searching for large abstract watercolor pieces for framing inspiration, it seems that they are all narrow! Ugh. Off to keep looking.

Thin frames abound

I am thinking a deeper blue green mat and a thicker silver or gold frame?

I'd look at your preferred colors that appear both in the rug and the watercolor.

Do you live near an AC Moore store? I had some work done there a few years ago for Christmas, and at 'my' store they had a guy who was very artistic and had great suggestions for matting my art. I also had a 50% off coupon, which they have ALL THE TIME if you get on their emailing list. You may be able to get away with just buying a new mat for it, but since it echoes some of the colors in the rug, I'd want to link them somewhat.

I love the art and the rug! I don't know that I would do a wider frame as it might overpower the artwork. Have you thought of going with a simple black or brushed silver frame and no mat? If you are in transition to a more modern look overall, a piece of art without a mat would work. I would take the piece to a frame shop or even Michaels or Hobby Libby and play around with a few different looks.

You could just paint that little wall a color, then put the art back as is. With the mix of styles in your home you could get away with it.

I agree with the above posts-- and most particularly JT's where she said it's an "80's style of framing". It may sound a little harsh but it was my first thought. You have a great piece of art, great rugs.. so much personality in the room.. but it's not making the mark on the overall view.

I don't have an issue with the matting but I tend towards plain mats. I would do a heavier and more interesting frame. I also like the idea of painting the short wall in a bold color. A darker blue or love the gold and ochres. I'd also love something leaning towards the pumpkin orange family. (I have BM Anjou and I love it with wood tones.. though not sure it's the right color for your rugs).

I like the mats and love the painting and your rug. Wonder if you could repurpose an interesting old frame and paint it a color that goes with your rug and artwork? Or paint your current frame. As mentioned above, painting that one wall an accent color sounds like fun.

I love the idea of painting that wall a bold color! The problem is ... and maybe it's not really a problem....is that this wall wraps around to the family room. This entire wall and the wall behind it was lava rock! I have so enjoyed the change from heavy, dark rock to a white/clean wall that I'm afraid I've become stuck in that view.

I take no offence to this looking like an 80's frame...because it is! ; ) I will be heading to Michael's this week to see what ideas they may have.

SW Copper Mountain might work. It's not an overly modern color that would look out of place...yet, there are "close " colors in the art and rug and the more rustic stone wall. Would look nice paired with cream off white walls. You could just paint that wall without wrapping. That shade might even help a bit with the transition you are trying to make with more lively decor items mixed with the more rustic rock wall.

Edited to Add: Benjamin Moore also has a Copper Mountain (I think).

It seems a bit brighter, maybe too bright but you might have a looky of both or similar shades.

Just to clarify, the rock wall is gone. I don't have to match anything to that color thank goodness!

lol justerrilynn....however I do rather like your suggested color go with it! I am still thinking about your other beautiful examples, just need to figure out if I could stop it at the end of that wall and then change colors, or somehow carry it to the other side.

About that tennis elbow, here is what my doctor recommended and it worked. Life saver. No more of those sharp jolts of pain. Granted, I had to wear it for a few months, but it allowed me to go about my day as usual. You can pick it up at any drug store, Walmart, Target, etc. Several brands. $20 bucks or less. Don't leave home without it.

I can't tell by your picture what it looks like beyond that wall. Anyway, not colors I would pick but they show a stop at open end and a wrap around.

Justierrilyn, thanks so much for your ideas and photos. It has opened the door to other possibilities that I hadn't considered and really has me thinking about what color I would like to try. Funny how you can start with a piece of art, and with this groups great input, think outside of the box. Thanks again to all.

Finally Home, thanks for that thought as well. I have one, but honestly forget to put it on consistently. It's hard when it is your dominant arm, as you simply have to use it, and that in turn aggravates it. Sort of no win. ; (
