Hmm. Weren't you around when installation happened? How'd the contractor even know knobs on doors, pulls on drawers? That's not a given...

Around here, in gardenweb-land, pulls and knobs are obsessed over, compared, shopped, and generally scrutinized.

And a KD should know that...but... if you specified those pulls, it might be hard to blame a KD, who has probably seen everything under the sun for hardware.

how many drawer fronts are there? I would just pay the cost to have drawer fronts swapped out, and it is a lesson learned.

Hmmm. I'm not generally crazy about any oversized pulls, but the only one I see that looks truly hideous to me, is the one in the last photo, as the length of the pull exceeds the recessed area of the panel; the rest you've shown do not. How many of those do you have? If you drape a towel over any like that and then look again, do you think you might get used to or even like the others? If so, I would redo only that one/ those fronts. Maybe living for awhile with the offender(s) covered will help you decide especially if the replacement cost comes out of your pocket.

I think they're too thick. Is it possible to find a simple bar pull that would fit the holes?

Remember also that right now you are focusing only on the hardware as there is no counter yet, backsplash or anything else.

My first thought is wow, finally some decent-sized pulls, but then, I'm a guy, so that's to be expected. My second thought is that they look different, not ugly, not horrible, just different. My third thought is once the counter is installed and the kitchen finished, first time guests will think you made a stylish statement.

I believe that they make a statement. I probably wouldn't have picked them and done them that way, but..... they are different. They will work and protect your drawers, they already drilled every cabinet front. And I agree that when you add counters and "stuff" they will jump out less - right now that's all "you" see. And especially YOU since you focus 100% on the new thing.

I think I might ask Designer what the logic was and keep them!

Large pulls have been increasing in popularity because they are easier to see and grab as we age. Functionally, these are great!

They are a statement! I think what is throwing me off if the seemingly random knob here and there. Especially that first photo. Considering how much time and painstaking direction I had to give my designer and her crew just on the selection and placement of pulls (let alone everything else) I do cringe at the thought that any of this was assumed...

They look like an intentional design element. I like the large size, trendy and very functional.

I would keep them all consistent. Or, order a new drawer front, and use one of the knobs on it. Not a smaller pull.

I agree with the others that once everything is in the kitchen, counters are on, etc, you won't even notice the pulls and especially the one in the last picture.

I think they look great but then I'm someone who did over size pulls of different lengths on my drawers. I went for having the pulls be about 1/2 of the drawer width.

The pic below shows 13" pulls on 24" wide drawers, 19" pulls on 36" wide drawers have 10" pulls on 18" drawers.

If you really don't like the smallest drawer with the large pull then order a new drawer face for that drawer and have a shorter pull installed. That should not cost too much. It will look ok to have one be a different size as long as it is the same style pull.

My upper cabinets all have 10" pulls except for the short cabinet above the fridge. No one has ever mentioned it being a different size. Here's how the cabinets look with only pull being a different size

The one that looks odd is tbe tiny knob next to the large pull that is located on tne door.

I think badgergal's kitchen illustrates that it's not the length of your pull that makes it look overpowering, it's the width. They're too chunky.

I like the pulls very much. I don't think of them as chunky- I think of them as sculptural.

I don't mind the pulls at all, either. I put the largest size I could find on our cabinets...very similar to the style posted here. I really like the feel of them, and the fact that my hands do not touch or rub on the door frame when I grab the handle. I had to clean my old cabinets fairly often ( we had knobs and I guess we often gripped the wood frame rather than the knob) and after years of really scrubbing off grime, we badly damaged the finish on some of the more frequently used doors.

Thank you to everyone. We were going for a Danish modern look, and I will have to think some more about whether I replace them with something slimmer. My husbands keeps saying they are practical and he worries about pants catching on knobs. Part of me worries about resale. When fashions change, we are locked into the big size.

The other thing is, with the wide bow you won't have to worry about finger nails scratching the surface of the cabinet because there's enough clearance. Most people don't do the guards behind knobs or pulls anymore but the finish can get damaged more easily unless one is careful all the time when the clearance is less.

Helen, I hope you're feeling less stressed now. I still think after living with them after a while and after all the rest of the kitchen is in place, you will love them. I still would put a smaller sized pull on the cute little drawer. I hope you will come back and post photo's when it's all finished.

In the second picture...are those two doors with pulls next to a door with a knob? While not everything has to be symmetrical, I find that to be unbalanced looking. In the first picture of the three drawer stack to the right, the pulls don't look centered...I hope that it is an optical illusion. But I think the others are correct, it is a beautiful kitchen that when finished will be a cohesive functional whole!

I am super picky and I think they look great. Maybe it was a mistake but I think it was a mistake that turned out to look nice. They only one I would change is the last pic of the small drawer. You can order a drawer front as mentioned. Live with it before changing it.

I think it's all going to be okay. Like you, I came home to installed pulls and was a bit taken aback to see how large they looked on the cabinets. It took some time to grow accustom to the look and now I think nothing of it and no one mentioned it when I did my kitchen reveal, so I don't believe it struck others that they are a bit big.

I found it hard to accept that we had added something to the beautiful wood. Seemed jarring at first.

Change out the littlest one. The ends of the pull extends past the stiles (vertical pieces) of the door below. Just replace that pull and do it sooner rather than later. A new-finished cabinet drawer front can look different than the existing cabinets that have been in your kitchen for a while. Talk to your contractor and maybe he'd pay for it or split the cost with you, if that's an issue.

Wow those are huge. Can't believe anyone would actually install those, even accidentally!

If you hadn't posted this, I'd have thought it was a personal choice and instead was stand-out feature. I do like them!

RE: the smaller drawer... change it if it really bothers you, but I think many walking into your finished kitchen might never notice it.

They look fine to me. The only thing that draws my attention is the knobs don't really match with the pulls. A square shaped knob would look better IMO.

All companies work differently when it comes to the fine details. Since I've been a KD for 34 years....I would normally address all of the above (size and placement). But there have been times when things like this slip through the cracks (as I smack my forehead) like now, in the recent construction/remodeling boom that's been going on. Regarding the installer: He should know by now to ask homeowners on placement. One bad job where he has to replace all the fronts will cure him of that! But....maybe the people you hired were just cabinet sales people and ordered what you said you wanted. And the installer is the type that just blindly installs what's given him. It happens. The blame could be all of you or none of you. :-)

They look great! So tired of seeing bar pulls in every kitchen! Don't worry about resale.... they are handles, they can be changed.... is that second picture an island? It appears to face the other run of cabinets so it is not completely out in the open in the site line of the space..Once your tops go on and appliances are in and lighting is done these handles will have a completely different look.... they are great on those slab drawers.....

There really is no one to blame "completely". You chose them but never asked about sizes, the designer sold them to you and never mentioned other sizes, and the installer put them on without verifying placement and no one took one out of the package and held it up to the cabinets and said " what do you think?"

Some handles don't come in multiple sizes...maybe that is why nothing was said...who knows - talk to the contractor and the KD and say how unsure you are of whether you wan these or not - they have been opened and installed so getting money back may not be a possibility...

I would also suggest stepping back and looking at the whole space - not a downward photo close up at one section of the whole kitchen - you may have a different opinion. On the flip side - if you really hate them, now is the time to speak up and see what resolve may be offered....

Your new cabinetry is so very beautiful. If it were my new kitchen and this happened to me, I would be disappointed. I think these large , heavy pulls distract the eye from the beauty of your cabinetry. I think you can easily keep the center to center size but you need to do something more like Badger did...something less thick and heavy.

and I think someone besides you should cover the cost of these pulls. Or perhaps a compromise if needed. Has your KD seen this yet?

i would buy one pull similar to the ones posted above, in the correct center to center size...replace one of these pulls and see how it looks.

The Cook's Kitchen, yeah I disagree. The pulls in the OP are FAR larger, proportionately, than those in your picture.

Why she means is that every time you "add" the next thing in a build or an install, you automatically fixate on THEM. Even with the picture posted, it's disproportionate to what the eye will actually "see" when anyone enters the kitchen. The pulls are 100% of the cabinet hardware, but 5% of the overall kitchen.

In other words, it's making a mountain out of a molehill.

How far out do they protrude from the cabinet itself?

Others obsess about backsplash which I really didn't care about. I obsessed over pulls and knobs. I do understand how you're feeling. Some refer to the pulls and knobs (and lighting in some cases) as the jewellery of the kitchen and I agree. If you think it is too clunky for the vision that you're going for then rethink what has happened. It is ok to change your mind, you have to live with it and only you can decide if the pulls aren't doing what you want - not us.

Thanks again for your responses. The remodeling company will pay for a new drawer face on the smallest drawer. So far the kitchen designer says she hasn't been able to find narrower handles (the current handles are approximately 2 cm wide and 22 7/10 cm long). I need to ask her for the specs, so I can help search. The problem started because she showed me a pic as an attachment but without measurements, so I picked the style, but not the dimensions. Alas. The installer asked me about placement, but I assumed when he showed me the large pull is was just for the large drawer.

Lesson learned...

Dang - that is nearly 9" long - I've never even seen pulls that size. I think your kitchen designer really should have caught this.

jannicone - not, it's certainly NOT a "mountain out of a molehill". It's a problem she is trying to resolve. Sheesh.

It's also a measure of accountability and service on the part of the remodeler and the KD. It sounds like you have someone who's reasonably responsive in both parties. In a sitch like this, a big part of the frustration is the feeling that you're not being listened to. You see posts on this site every day that talk about product and installation problems with suppliers and fabricators who don't listen.

I'm having trouble finding other pulls similar in style to what I have but somewhat narrower that are satin nickel in a 7 and 9/16 center to center arch, Does anyone have ideas as to the best place to look? Thanks in advance.

Here is the kitchen almost but not entirely done. The pantry door will be replaced to match the cabinets and one of the drawer fronts (the one that had the huge handle) will be replaced.
