Chickens with head colds, please advise
Comments (3)If you do some web searching on respiratory illnesses in birds or poultry, you'll find lots of info. The short answer is: Basically yes, they are contagious, antibiotics will NOT help unless you are treating a SECONDARY bacterial infection (wounds oozing pus kind of thing), and all you can do is support them using unflavored Pedialyte to drink to boost their electrolytes, warmth, no drafts and good food. Several of my flock also came down with it during our persistently wet winter, it was a pain in the neck. :( Make sure that they are not also suffering from piggyback problems such as a mite infestation or worms. Once a chicken's immune system is down, the first illness can often act as a 'gateway illness' and open the door for other problems, which a normally healthy bird can fight off. You can check my chicken info site for more health tips that might help. http://home.earthlink.net/~velvetsparrow/VSChick.htm Good luck! :) Velvet ~:>...See MoreUPDATE: WoW Thanks! I wanted that! #9
Comments (149)Morning all! Fran, I put in a bit more postage than what it was for me to mail my package to you. I don't think that I'll get back what I sent because we have a lot of veggie growers here, BUT if by chanace you dont have enough postage I'd be happy to send more if you need it to get my package back to me. I'm so glad that I bought the veggie seeds, I could almost hear how excited people were when I offered them up for grabs! Thank you to anyone who sent flowers in for me, I assure you that every single seed will find a good home. Lisa...See MoreNo water and I have a cold, today's rant

Comments (37)Severe eye infections can trigger the formation of a "retinal membrane". I have it in both eyes. Look it up on Med MD for more information. This may or may not occur. After this event has subsided, you should schedule an eye exam by nobody less than an Eye Doctor: a technican will not do. Mention the reason for the exam is that you have had a severe eye infection. In fact, you should call right away to make the appointment and ask when the exam should take place. Sometimes, there is a lengthy delay in getting an appointment. You should have yearly exams for several years afterward to check for a retinal membrane, or until the doctor advises a longer span between exams....See Morebengardening
