No water and I have a cold, today's rant

My DH was worried about the cost of heating our home. We have an old oil burner that's been running for 36 years, longer than we've been married. Every year they tell us "Get a new one." It keeps breaking down and we've had to get it fixed many times. DH decided to replace it with a natural gas burner, the price of NG is pretty stable. Not like the price of oil. We used to spend under $1000 for oil for the entire season. Our last "drop" this summer was for over $700. So anyway we contracted our plumber to do the switcheroo. They came today, shut off our hot water, hey,they shut off all our water. On top of that, I have a head cold and I feel like someone ran bleach inside my sinuses. I can't take a shower or do laundry. I am so miserable! ANyone want to send me some sympathy? I need a hug.

Welcome aboard Philipe. People in your area can probably give you more localized information for your zone like the last average frost date. However, I will say that seeds like heat to germinate and once they come up, they need to be protected from heavy rains. You can flatten them or wash the out just watering them if you are not careful and gentle with them. I do not know how much you are seeding, but it would not take much to shelter several flats of seedlings. A few bales of hay even just 4 might do, a simple wood frame with some clear plastic stretched over it for a cover and a way to fasten or weight it down. Perhaps an old window or something like a glass storm door, or shower door might do. You will have to ventilate it when the sun is out and the weather warm after the seedlings come up, don't forget about that. Good luck. Bill P.

If you are looking to get a computer in the near future and are a fan of outlook express (been using for many years and I also hate the change) you will not be able to continue using it with Windows 7...You can still use it on all older computers inluding vista but when Windows 7 came with my new computer it had no email program with it, and tells you to get your own. It will not support Outlook express. I had to download another program which was free, (Thunderbird) to receive my home email and support the account that held it without changing my email address. I have hot mail and yahoo, both free and have used them for years also, but my Outlook express account took care of all my personal and household mail. That address I did not give out freely. Had I known before I purchased this version I probably would have opened a gmail (free) account and gradually turned my mail over to that to get used to it.

Only happening with one bathroom sink, no hot water in toilet tank or bathtub cold faucet or kitchen sink? In large buildings hot water pressure is kept slightly higher than cold so that problems like this can be detected and fixed quickly because of costs involved in hot water loss. Ask your manager if the hot water system pressure was worked on or any new single lever sink faucets installed anywhere at the time your problem started. At a guess the water flow you hear is not an external leak but some sort of cross connect fault that is then slowly dumping through a leaking toilet tank or perhaps some system valve that isn't tightly shut. If this problem is stumping the person hired to fix it, your condo is not hiring very competent people.

Some valve bodies have an auto shut off feature which is designed to prevent scalding. If one side has no pressure, both sides are shut off inside the valve body. Or you dislodged some huge chunk of rust and it made its way to the shower valve. I can't see from here. Try dissembling the shower valve and flushing it out.

Ahhh, Jannie, I know your feeling all too well. It's bad enough just to be sick OR have a major problem, but to have both isn't fair in the least. You have my sympathies, and my empathies. I don't handle problems very well when I'm sick.

Thanks, the plumbers finished up for today and turned the water back on. but it's cold water only. Tomorrow they will finish up. My cold is a tiny bit better. I made some vegetable soup for dinner-actually, Campbells made the soup, I just heated it, I will go to bed now.
