BBC & PBS Fans.. What else are you looking forward to?
Comments (22)This version of Poldark was much better than the original one which I watched some years ago - perhaps it's the brooding intensity of Aidan Turner. They are now filming season 2 and the BBC stated that Poldark might be the long running drama they're seeking as a replacement for Downton Abbey. There are 12 novels in Winston Graham's Cornwall series covering the years 1783 to 1820. No air date set yet but they hinted maybe spring 2016. Outlander is also filming and just switched locations. Ron Moore did a Q&A last week and said while he's not in charge of scheduling that we should anticipate late March or April 2016....See MoreOutlander fans, which is better TV show or books?
Comments (9)This post is depressing! Now I have to add more books to my already-large collection of books waiting to be read! I love the Outlander series on Starz!! I usually buy my books from abebooks.com - I notice they have "Outlander" published in 2001...and they also have "Outlander (Starz Tie-in Edition)" published in 2014. Is anyone familiar with the tie-in edition? I wonder if it would be better than the original? Really confused here....See MorePlaying Outlander
Comments (49)Outlander is set in the 1740's Scotland leading up to Culloden. The practice stays are stiffened with plastic zip ties, not terribly rigid, but the real stays will be stiffened with reed. It comes in a big roll and you cut it to size to fit in the stitched channels. Whalebone, reed, cane, and wood (often ash) were all used in the 18th century. You can buy a modern artificial whalebone made out of a sturdy plastic, but it is expensive. I thought the reed would do just as well. As for the bum-pad, I suppose they might have used horsehair, but there was a lot of wool around, and it is much softer and far less scratchy. I'll bet people used what was available and convenient. As for me, I used leftover wool quilt batting stacked in graduated layers, the way you might make shoulder pads for a tailored jacket. I plan to finish the second pocket today and move on to the petticoats sometime this weekend. I am feeling the pressure to make faster progress....See MoreHBO, Showtime, Cinemax....
Comments (10)The coolest thing about these is you can get the OnDemand most likely or HBO Go. I have no idea what your interests are, but here are ones we watched. Some of these are not current, but they were good series. Examples: neither DH nor I ever saw The Sopranos, so we watched that, and another HBO series that is excellent is Six Feet Under. We were just talking now that summer will be here, we usually watch some sort of series we've never seen. We started Deadwood so we'll probably finish that. HBO: Westworld, Games of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, The Wire, Deadwood Showtime: Homeland, Dexter Cinemax: Banshee, Outcast (both of these filmed near me so maybe a little biased. Homeland was also filmed here the first couple of seasons). Then the state where I live decided to reduce tax incentives, so away they went. Outcast is filmed in the state where I work....See MoreFun2BHere
