Outlander fans, which is better TV show or books?

I just finished watching the first half of season 1 that I checked out of the library. I just picked up the second half to watch. Is the TV show close to the books? Or better?

I found that the TV show was close to the books. I read the books first, so that may have influenced me. Of course, the books go into a lot more detail. I enjoyed both immensely.

DH and I liked Bletchley and "Bomb Girls". Any day now we are going to start speaking Received English from overexposure to Masterpiece Theater. We are watching "Mr. Selfridge" and "Call the Midwiife" and about to begin "Father Brown". "Breathless" was also just promoted on our PBS station. Oh, and we just finished Season 6 of "Doc Martin". Ta-ta! Time to sound the gong an hour before dinner is served. (I'll be changing into my robe and slippers.)

They are all available in ereader form, I loved Outlander... In fact Diana herself on her website has put some of them up for free download. It benefits her because once you are hooked you have to have them all. There's quite a lot of them now. I posted not too long ago about one of her books on for like 99c. Do searches on amazon and Google for the outlander ebook series, here's the entire 7 book set in Kindle format. We have a rainy day here so I've been playing....beginning to think maybe less IS more: I moved the other two prints and put them on the walls beside the FP. I am warming up to this now; maybe I was used to having four prints, and now that they are still in the room, it maintains the continuity I was used to. And......back to the chairs; a pair of these PB chairs has been hiding in the recesses of our CL: Pottery Barn Calais chair in leather They are almost brand new so not exactly a fire sale price; they are asking $500 for the pair. I think that's a little high, but assuming the price was right, do you think they would finish things off well? Or should I leave well enough alone? I'd purchase them only if they are more comfortable than what I have, and I won't know that until I see them. I can't test the link until I post, but in case it doesn't show the right one, the CL chairs are brown leather with espresso stain legs. I still really like the sconces but wonder if this is just as nice in some ways. I am now looking at my FP and wondering if the sconces would look good on either side of my mirror! But, no worries, that will have to wait for another day, lol!

There are characters in the book that are full and rich that are mere mentions in the show. - How many books in total are there? Books!!! I have been reading the series for decades (I have read each book at least 15 times each) and although I agree they are doing a wonderful job on the show, the books are better by a landslide. The writers just can't get the true sense of the characters across by breaking these giant books down into 13-16 episodes. I love the show for the sets and costumes though.

Ditto what Cleo just said. The first book is covered in Season 1. If you like good, long books, and have the time, the books are a must read. Also, it'll make more sense. But to have it put to life is amazing and interesting and so enjoyable!

This post is depressing! Now I have to add more books to my already-large collection of books waiting to be read! I love the Outlander series on Starz!!

I usually buy my books from abebooks.com - I notice they have "Outlander" published in 2001...and they also have "Outlander (Starz Tie-in Edition)" published in 2014. Is anyone familiar with the tie-in edition? I wonder if it would be better than the original? Really confused here.

Wanda_va - don't even go there with the Starz Tie-In Edition. Nothing could be better than the original Outlander. (I found almost all of my paperback copies at Goodwill for 50¢ each.)

Wanda, do you have a Kindle? Given a choice, I usually prefer real books, but the Outlander books are so big and heavy. I was glad I had the 900-pagers on my Kindle.

I don't have a Kindle, but I think I can get books on my iPad--never tried it because I prefer to hold a book (I'm a librocubicularist). Of course, I don't usually read 900-pagers. Yikes!
