Calling all 'Outlander' fans!

Diana Gabaldon just signed a deal with Sony for an HBO or Showtime-type series of the "Outlander" series of books. Yes, I know we all know *just* what Claire and (swoon!) Jamie look like in our minds, but I'm still excited to see what they come up with.

I *so* hope that they choose complete unknowns.

I have all the books but have only read the first, Outlander. I want to read more but they are so long it takes me for ever to get through them.
I hope the show will be successful.

I used Restorafinish on my old mahogany dining table that has seen many, many better years.....lol! With the first application with a cloth only, it didn't seem to make much difference, it still looked pretty bad. So I went ahead and did it again, using fine steel wool and really putting some elbow grease into it, and it DID improve the overall appearance. At least well enough for me to finally, finally, take off the tablecloth that I've always needed to use to hide the damaged finish. The finish on my old table was dulled and scratch and had rings from people putting glasses on it, etc. Although it's still dulled, and needs a good sealant, at least now all the surface stain is the same color and looks decent enough to go naked. I can't post a photo today because my camera's out of batteries, otherwise I would. If your stuff looks like "crap", as you say, I don't see how it could hurt it any worse to try the steel wool technique.

Thank you all for your support.Yaya i am in Woolwich about a hour away.I LOVE the Bridgton area. My husband and I travel threw on our yearly North Conway trip. Allison Thank you. My stove is tiny. The cupboards were made around it. It was hard when i moved in but i am very used to cooking in it. Turkeys are a snap. I am replacing the white appliance with stainless steel. I am also going with a counter depth fridge that is very tall with freezer on the bottom. It is a (Summit FFBF285SSIM). The wall side with old hutch will have new cabinets to match the old.On top with be 3 large shelves. Similar to the blog inspiration.

Just stick with your original plan. As with everywhere in real Scandinavian homes there is a variety of materials even though there are the more common types as well. I'm from that area. Actually soap stone used to be a common material for window sills in older buildings. The one that when not oiled looks a bit lighter than charcoal with some veins. Never saw it oiled though. I will keep my eyes peeled for this. I believe this is the only series of books that I have read at least three times if not more. I just love them and always find something new in them. Thanks for the headsup, joann.

So excited! I love Jamie and have told my hubby if Jamie shows up at my door ---- I'm gone! LOL

I read on her page that she hopes to have the next book out by the end of the year?!??!

Oh, that's fabulous news! I hope it's on HBO, so I don't have to pay more money every month. :)

I also hope it's unknowns that are cast- after the debacle of Tom Cruise being cast as Jack Reacher, I just don't think I could stand it if they miscast Jamie!

Well, they can change the eyes to blue with colored contact lenses and they can change the hair with dye, but they're going to need someone really tall. And fair-skinned, though I suppose they could change that with makeup, but it would be a pain to carry that throughout the series.

Diana Gabaldon has said that Jamie Fraser is built like a basketball player, not a football player. Not that she'll probably get any input into casting.

If you like "Outlander" and are interested in people's ideas of casting, go to Youtube and search on "Outlander casting." Tons of stuff, some of them very good. Though the consensus always seems to be that Jamie should be played by Gerard Butler, who is much too old for Jamie in the first couple books, though he *is* tall.

I'll be interested to see how they'll handle the sex scenes, which are so amazingly written in the books. It wouldn't be "Outlander" if they made it into a family show, but it also wouldn't be "Outlander" if there were naked women running around in every scene.
