6 years agoone of my favorite lights for over an island is this:
Goes with virtually most other lights that might be placed adjacent and puts off decent light.
Comes in 4 sizes and several metal tones. It's a shot in the dark as no idea what your kitchen will look like, what will be adjacent and the style you seek. Most important thing is that it reflects you and your style.
It comes in a X large you could do a single it's 24". Again, no idea of what your cabinets, flooring, counters, style will be so just a shot in the dark.

Comments (65)@Porter, I didn't get the LED Edison bulbs yet-the store where we got the pendants gave me 3 halogen bulbs to see if it was better for me as I didn't like the yellow light at all. I am still going to order them when I do a Prime order to see the difference. That fixture is in a nook--off centered from the pendants--it comes with a chain ;however I am undecided if a table is going to go there or it will stay open, so had it semi-flush mounted. Does it look odd or out of place? @Beth, Right now they are 34" so when the quartz is installed, it should be about 32 33" from counter to bottom of lights. Comments (14)I will stop by the house tonight and see if they are hung yet. Hopefully this week sometime. I initially wanted the pebble shape too! I don't know what changed my mind, bc I felt this one was too school-house looking at first. But I made a couple mockups and just felt like this one went better. IDK lol, I'm making it up as I go haha. I also got the flush mount for over our sink. I went with the brass too to mix it up and am using brushed brass hardware on my island. Faucet is chrome. Everything else is ORB- perimeter cabinet hardware and doorknobs, etc. One thing I didn't realize is the metal rod is only like 1-foot long and the rest is a gold rope. Look at the picture of the canopy closely and you will see. I'm hoping it doesn't look stupid bc I'm keeping them. They were on sale several months ago but haven't been since. Comments (21)Flo - I wish it was just the light itself...we renovated our kitchen. It was connected to 2 family rooms. Almost fully open to a small family room on one side, and a small doorway (32” opening) on the other side. We are a family of 5 and no one ever used the larger family room bc of that small opening. It seemed cut off from the rest of the house. We opened up that side, added a breakfast part and stools so it’s now a useable part of the house. We hired a kitchen designer. That was our mistake. He did a great job with the kitchen...but we needed someone to look at the big picture. I started to realize this after it was too late. Everything was going in. I kept thinking I’ll find a way to pull it together when the kitchen’s done and yesterday when I put the 2nd light up I realized how hard it will be ... I am in way over my head. It’s a very long open space. Open floor plan gone badly. I’m beside myself. I need to now just focus on finishing the last few details in the kitchen and bring in some different interior decorators, designers ... 6 years agoThank you Porter, I like the styles you have shared and I do like the larger size. Ceilings are 8 ft. and recessed cans are already in place. Kitchen is going to be part of a large connected room. Floors are oak, cabinets white with beadboard accents. I haven't decided tile color yet, but subway glass is what I'm after. These are some other styles I like alot. We live by the ocean and have some nice views so shooting for a beachy vibe.

6 years agoThe first light you posted which is the one I looked up is small for a 9 foot x 7 foot island. It's only
- Canopy Diameter: 5.5" is far too small for a 9x7' island IMO... I do two large or 3 pendants at approximately 14" ea. depending if they are glass or more obstructed as in a solid metal light. You could go to 14" easily with a nice glass light.

A real beach home light... however, not a lot of light so cans necessary, more aesthetics!
