Comments (7)I'm not an official East Coaster, but I was on Long Island for a wedding (I lived my whole life there until 11 years ago when we moved to Georgia). The wedding was luckily on Friday, so wasn't affected by the storm. The grooms parents had to rush back to their home the next morning as they were being evacuated. And out of town guests were stuck at the hotel since the airports closed on Saturday. I was stuck an extra day, just got back this evening. The poor bride and groom haven't left for their honeymoon yet. I was staying at my Moms, she had some minimal damage, two branches off a large Rose of Sharon broke off. So on my vacation, I was drafted into doing yard work. I can't get away from it!...See MoreOT: Need advice from Florida people
Comments (17)like everyone is saying, fill gas tank in as many cars as you have. If you have a grill make sure you have gas for that too. Make sure to get extra food for animals and for yourself. none parishable(sp) if possible. Get extra water. any patio furniture bring into you garage. any plants you have that you want to keep bring inside. Make sure that all items that are unable to be brought indoors is secured somehow. Make sure that you have plenty of cash in hand. No power means no ATMs. If you have a generator, make sure it is outside before starting it. Have a safe place to go in case there is a tornado. Have all important documents in a water tight bag or container. If you can take pictures or video of your items in your home, so that you know what you have incase you need to provide info to the insurance companies. For example all electronics, furniture, collectables etc... If you like I will post a link to the guide that they give us here in florida. It has info for before and after a storm. Here is a link that might be useful: hurricane get prepared...See MoreOT - Looming Hurricane!?!
Comments (13)Yes Kate-please prepare. And all those in Isaac's path. It is suppose to hit Tampa, but the cone of the storm is very damaging. Tropical Storms cause Major damage. Buy alot of ice. Gas up ALL vehicles, and your portable gas cans. Buy Clorax to have on hand. Prepare your camping gear Before it hits - fill all your bathtubs with water - pool water is great to flush - but if it blows out of your pool.... Your hands will be shaking to much to do hand work :) Getting thru a Hurricane or Tropical Storm is a long process. It rattles your soul and your house!...See MoreHurricane Michael: Here we go again!
Comments (25)Maddielee, finally heard from them at 8 PM last night. They are Ok, had 9 ft storm surge that went under their house, but cars got a foot of water. Singles gone, facia boards gone. Windows saved by hurricane shutters. No electric, water, or sewer yet. Ground has to dry before using septic or it will back up (they had to put semi deflated rubber balls in toilet and sinks to keep sewage out during flooding. Currently no cell or text service, but they have a DSL line working that they hooked to wi-fi fix to use when generator is running. Two hours on, two off....See Morekathy_t
