Nothing like waking up 12 minutes before the alarm goes off to a massive leg cramp. Let the dogs out. While walking slowly/painfully down the hallway I was sure Emily was going to jam her claws into my foot. They were both so excited to be going out to chase rabbits/birds and use the bathroom! She calmed down halfway down the hall but Chewie isn't so bright and he kept freaking out. One day he will knock me over and I'll break a hip.

Another work day today. I work in a really old building and they're renovating he stairway near where we work out of, closed off the bathrooms we use yesterday. It wasn't fun, had to go out of our building, into the old ER entrance to use the bathroom. They're going to be doing repairs for the next couple of days. Glad I'm off after today at least until Sunday. Hopefully they'll be done by then. A few of our nurses don't get around too good so it's a real hassle for them. Weather is still cool.

Still hoping Hurricane Irma goes out to sea. I hope all the Kters are somewhere safe just in case. I haven't read the news yet. Have a great day everyone!

I had 1 1/2 gallon of bleach and a full load of water in the washing machine overnight. After draining it this morning, and refilling it with a small load of water, the water was still dirty, and it still smelled musty. YIKES, what a mess. I took the damn thing apart. Had to buy a tool to take the tub out. Took everything outside and power washed it. YIKES, what a mess. Then it took me forever to put it back together, but I did something wrong, and got water all over. Back to the drawing board. Had one part upside down. After getting it back together I filled a small load again.. and no leakage! Yeah. Took me all day, between the working on it, and the going and buying that tool.

Had to shower and put clean clothes on. kept smelling that darn musty smell, but the machine seems to work.

Yippee for youtube!

Thursday is Mexican Train group at my placer.

Everyone arrives around 11:30, so we can chat and eat lunch, byo lunch.

One of the gals made pumpkin bread, so mid way thru the afternoon we stopped for dessert.

Most enjoyable day, so far.

Cleaning our bedroom top down (is there any other way?). Two humans, two dogs, and a cat make for a quickly fuzzy bedroom! I really should clean my own room more often, every few weeks just isn't enough. I think that I just admitted that I'm a slob :-)

Mamma Pinky, No, he can not eat anything very thin, so he says. He can not get it in his mouth, will not use a smoothy straw even for that. Won't eat any other kind of cooked cereal, won't eat mashed potatoes with lots of gravy or broth to make it smoother. He will eat puddings, sometimes with small pieces of cake soaked into it. Won't eat any Jello. Will eat candied sweet potatoes with lots of syrup and mashed well. I do put eggs, milk, butter, bananas, cheese and such at different times in his oatmeal just to vary it. I don't even know if he tastes his food. Sometimes ice cream on top of the oatmeal. He does eat applesauce and he gets 4 nutritional drinks a day. Drinks some water and that is it. This has been going on for 3 years now. He has gotten worse since the stroke, because he would not continue his speech therapy. Speech and swallowing are sort of linked together, the muscles that is. So, that is the way it is. His speech is so terrible, most of the time I can not understand him. This was his second big stroke. He can not maneuver stairs very well, so twice a day I carry his meals up to him. He only wants to eat twice a day. We live in a bi level home, my kitchen, dining room and family room are down below. Living room and bedrooms up on the upper level, which is also ground level. I am sure there are many on here that have had to deal with a stroke patient. It also affects the mind. Sue

Good afternoon :-) Great find Nicole. DH brings not very exciting stuff home for me like fence material and things like that. Much appreciated but not very fancy even though it is free :-) he gets it on his job sites. When they are throwing stuff away they ask him if he wants it. I'm here having pizza with my husband. well sort of. he got a business call so I'm talking to you. My view outside the window is one of a traditional Vancouver gray rainy day. You can see me often with whole over layer of wool, hat, gloves, sweater, with a down vest,. Also a thin Merino wool underlayer which you can't see of course, and wool socks. I walk dogs as part of my living so wool keeps me warm even when I'm wet. I have to go and make a call about my accounting software today yuck. Then it's time to make chicken curry dinner. Happy Thursday all :-).

Major heat wave today - it was 96° this afternoon, and despite the hot weather, I am still recuperating from a cold that I've had for about a week now. I am also recuperating from surgery to remove melanoma, and I have to go back to my dermatologist next week and the week after that for yet more surgery, but it will be less invasive than the melanoma removal. I met with business partner this afternoon at my house (I am not supposed to drive while I have stitches), and we worked out a deal for new furniture designs that will be made in Mexico. We had a conference call with the manufacturer in Mexico, and that went well, and so now I have to do some more drawings/designs. Having this new work makes me feel better and lifts my mood, which has been depressed because of the cold and the surgery. I had planned to go to Cathedral City this week-end, but since I cannot drive, that will not be happening. It's hot enough here anyway. It's actually hotter here in Los Angeles than it is in Palm Springs, due to the Santa Ana winds, which unfortunately cause me to feel depressed. Fortunately, I had a visit today, and that helped alleviate the depression, which was not severe anyway. Because of the heat, I had to water some of my chili plants twice today. If I were able, I would repot some of them, but my doctor has told me to wait on this, as I am not supposed to lift anything heavier than a gallon of water for a week. Next week my surgery will be on my left wrist, and that will also make gardening more difficult. However, it appears that I will be getting a good crop of chocolate Habanero chilies, and I did not realize that so many of my plants were this variety, as they are difficult to grow. I am also starting some seeds for winter herbs, including scallions, Indian basil, parsley, cilantro, and dill. I can grow these in the summer, but they seem to do better in the winter.

I dug a 2' strip of weeds out, not even as wide as the sidewalk and got 16 5-gallon buckets of dirt & weeds. Took me 2 hours. Tomorrow I plan on going faster and making 2 trips. :0) Peeka just caught a vole out in the garden!

I had a better day than Moni....went to a luncheon for a friend who is moving to be closer to family. Actually, they travel a lot in their R.V. so their lifestyle won't change that much. Once they sell their house, they will really be free spirits, but will base out of Texas.

Moni, why did you have to clean out your washing machine with bleach, if you don't mind my asking?

Kathy, do you know that half a teaspoon of mustard or a little dill pickle juice will loosen your leg cramp immediately? Hope you can give that a try next time.

I took dd3 to the airport after her visit here. She'd lost weight and needed to gain some so it was rather fun cooking for her--I'm sure she must have gained a pound or two. Guess I'd better turn my attention to housework again...

@sjerin - Sooo, I'm going to ask a really, really stupid question. What does one do with the mustard or pickle juice? Eat it or put it on the cramp.

Moni do you wash in cold water? Use a lot of fabric softener?

sjerin It is a washing machine given to me. The one that came with this house just doesn't take on enough water... some of the clothes would not get wet, if I didn't put buckets of additional water in.

Mama, I use the home made detergent.. and not much. No fabric softener at all. warm water.

Ooo, sorry, blfenton, I meant to mention that--not a dumb question at all! You eat/drink the stuff all at once and the cramp goes away. Yes, this is anecdotal, but there are a whole lotta people for whom this works. My mother used it for years.
