Very Early Morning Pics
Comments (29)John, I potted every breweriana and put them in my unheated hoophouse and they all died. During one of the coldest days of the winter I looked outside and saw the hoophouse was ripped to shreds. I had shingles fly off my home and rip the poly. I don't believe it was that single (overnight) event that killed them, however. I rushed and brought everything into my basement and placed them all on blankets, however I couldn't water. Lots of combinations of bad. That beech is an interesting character of a plant John and Robin. It's weeping. It's purple for a good amount of time then gradually turns green. Fall color is pretty decent. Beng: 100% agree. Our thoughts are precisely on the same page. Severn, they'll all return. It'll be five years until they look perfect again. Have a nice weekend everyone. Robin email me anytime for your guided tour :-) Dax...See MoreSome good early morning openers (photos)
Comments (9)Very pretty, you take such nice pictures! I haven't been out early in a while, not since school has been out for summer vacation. I know that some of mine don't even open all the way untill the sun hits them. I have noticed that my navajo princess will start to open the evening before they bloom though so she probably opens early. -Jessica...See MoreDeep Deep Shade (sun for 15 minutes early morn)
Comments (5)'Mariesii' wouldn't stand any chance in z5. Even here in z6b it blooms very rarely cause it buds start swelling very early and and more often than not killed by Feb-March frosts. If you are interested in foliage alone that might make a sense. Arborescens 'Annabelle' blooms for me reliably in 100% shade between and under 2 very old oaks:...See MoreEarly preview of maple counters (I mean very early)...
Comments (10)Thanks, everyone! valzone5, I'll be sure to give you a report once they're finished and we know how they hold up. Maple is fairly hard wood, so I'm expecting that they'll be pretty durable. teacats, yes, he's working very hard, and amazingly also working on the Arts & Crafts settee for our LR at the same time! But he really enjoys woodworking, and fortunately he has a pretty good shop out back, except for some special tasks where he has to use the community college machines. auntjen, thanks! We got that tile at Restore and I've been squirreling it away for 4 years. Maybe we'll get to that job this summer, too! magothyrivergirl, yes, I'm very proud of his work! I'm not sure what finish we'll use; I assumed it would be polyurethane of some type, but I'll mention the Waterlux to my husband. After going to all the work of doing this we should finish it in a manner that best protects it, so I appreciate the tip....See Morewildchild2x2
