How many of you have wallpaper in the kitchen?
Comments (19)"A couple of years ago they were talking about manufacturing a wallpaper which could very easily be peeled off when you're ready to re-decorate." That's Sherwin-Williams EasyChange wallpaper. Haven't used it but may well do so here once the walls are de-textured (I hate textured walls to begin with and PO did a crap job to boot). I think there are some really nice patterns in that line, ranging from very modern prints to classic florals and toiles - others may of course disagree. IMO many people dislike wallpaper because of a backlash from the overuse of faddish papers like the proverbial 1980s beribboned geese and country plaids LOL or giant orange-and-green flowers from the 70s rather than classic patterns or from the hassle of removing improperly applied paper. I really like wallpaper as long as a) it's not used to excess unless the house's architecture is suited to it, b) the scale and style of the paper is suited to the space it's in (for instance, a very large room with high ceilings might need a paper with a great deal of "negative space" to avoid being overpowering, but in a little powder room you can get away with a wowzer dense print that would overwhelm in larger doses) b) it's not the cheap, shiny vinyl junk. But then I'm not the fickle type who wants to change colors every other year - those folks are probably better suited to just paint....See MoreNew Kitchen Updates and Wallpapered Laundry Room! Comments (22)Thanks for all these kind comments! Tina, those parsons chairs came right out of my home office. I have been using that fabric for years---- it's a diagonally running band along the bottom edge of the Laura. Ashley toile dust ruffle on our bed . . . My chair at the bedroom secretary is upholstered in it, and I have a parsons chair upholstered with it in my closet! It's my neutral :). Am going to get another parsons chair in this so I will have four matching ones in case we someday end up in a house with a round breakfast table that needs them. I have used the material since it was first introduced in a Ballard catalog in the late 90's, I think. The cushions on the kitchen chairs will be a small design box cushion piped in the plaid with thin plaid ties....See MoreJust for fun...wallpaper
Comments (10)I think I'd do glass tiles on the backsplash and then paper the rest of that wall. IMHO you need something with some sparkle in that center area and I don't think visually wallpaper can carry it off well enough to make the statement such a grand piece of furniture should. That's a very large unit. It has aged appearance it needs a wee bit of sparkle. The piece that is based on would have had a mirrored center which tho nice takes away some of the magic because you can see the backs of appliances and such. Tile would clean better and give it sparkle without taking away the magic....See MoreLet's talk wallpaper (may be offensive to wallpaper lovers)
Comments (23)I love wallpaper, and use it often. But I do agree about people who apply multiple layers or paint over it. Doesn't sound like any of you have ever had the challenge we had in this house. I kid you not--I counted carefully--our living room had TWELVE layers of wallpaper, several with pain on them. And we stripped every scrap of it off before doing anything further. One interesting thing I've noticed lately--the houses for sale in the neighboring town (one of the priciest, most 'desireable', most trendy in the country) are mostly showing very, very busy wallpapers lately. Guess it's coming back....See Moreschoolhouse_gw
