And how about people that don't put stuff on the drywall before they put wallpaper up! You go to remove the wal1paper and part of the drywall comes off too.

Having a hard time removing old wallpaper? Score it and spray it with a solution of warm water with a little water softner added to it.

Some wallpaper is easy, others is hard. It just depends on how it was pasted in the first place.

Yes, I will hold them down, for you to be able to hit them right on. LOL, I am with you. It took us two days, for three people to remove the wallpaper in my other house. Took me two hours, to just remove it on one side of the window, you know, right the small narrow strip from the corner to the window frame!!!!

Oh, please, can I whip them before you shoot them? My bedroom had - count 'em - three layers of wallpaper with paint between the layers. Right now, we're dealing with wallpaper over unprimed drywall.

I do recognize that there are lots of nice wallpapers, but I won't have them in my house. Paint only!

I agree! I have tried to remove wallpaper that has been painted over and repapered many many times. What a bear of a job, to put it nicely. And even had wallpaper over unprimed drywall. Didn't know till we removed it and took the dry wall paper with it. That was fun! On second thought, shooting is too good for them!

NO wallpaper for me either! I have removed all of the above messes. Each time I get a decorating job I try my hardest to change minds of wallpaper lovers. I don't mind wallpapering, I just hate wallpaper!

One of our first apartments had 8 layers of wallpaper on the walls in the livingroom kitchen and dining area. Landlord payed for renting a steamer. It took me over a week to remove it all. Thank goodness it was winter time. LOL

I absolutely Hate wallpaper!! I had to remove some when we moved into this house,and i vowed i would never put that stuff up.Besides the work to remove it,it locks you into those colors for a long time.Give me good old Paint!!

When I bought this 1937 house even the ceilings were wallpapered. I removed it in my bedroom one square inch at a time. Bathroom came off in sheets.

The rest of the house, I PAINTED OVER IT. I couldn't help it. I hated it. I couldn't deal with removing it. I know, wallpaper should be banned, and I should be beaten.

I hate wallpaper anywhere. It never looks good, I don't care what anyone says. I prefer nice painted walls and (always) white ceilings.

About 2 months ago my gdaughter and I spend 3 days removing wallpaper from my kitchen, dining area, bath and hallway. I'd like to slap the woman who had that wallpaper put up in the first place but I don't believe in self abuse. :)

We've waited all this time for a guy to come and fix the walls. Since the rest of the house has knockdown texture he finally came this week and is putting up mud on walls to texture and paint. What a mess but maybe finally it will be normal around here again.

I love wallpaper, and use it often. But I do agree about people who apply multiple layers or paint over it.

Doesn't sound like any of you have ever had the challenge we had in this house. I kid you not--I counted carefully--our living room had TWELVE layers of wallpaper, several with pain on them. And we stripped every scrap of it off before doing anything further.

One interesting thing I've noticed lately--the houses for sale in the neighboring town (one of the priciest, most 'desireable', most trendy in the country) are mostly showing very, very busy wallpapers lately. Guess it's coming back.

I HATE HATE HATE wallpaper! In my home office, the window wall had horrible little blue flowers wallpaper that was impossible to remove by any and all methods. Finally, I gave up and paneled that wall with floor to ceiling tongue and groove beadboard planks, which I then painted a pale creamy yellow color.It looks pretty nice, if I do say so myself.

I also had three layers of wallpaper with paint in between in my old house. Yuck!

I have wallpapered and wallpapered over... and removed all of it in evry room in my home over the span of 30 years..somebody suggested for the time and aggravation taking the wallpaper down..look into having somebody put up new drywall, over the current wall and skim coat plaster, and you're ready to roll.. take it from somebody who did just that, for my kitchen.. worth every penny and then some... just a thought. and it was done in 1 day.

When Amber and Mike bought their home, she wanted to take the wallpaper off in the kitchen. When she started taking it off, they had not prepared the wall for wallpaper nor did they mud the seams on the drywall! It was just wallpaper over the drywall. Lucky for us we have a son in law that can do that kind of work very well, so now it is really nice like it should be.

I put up some wallpaper in bathroom. I primed it, sized it, did everything right. I still ended up having to pick it off the walls with my finger nails and do patching on the drywall because some of the paper on dry wall came off. I scored it, used paper stripper. I painted bathroom. I will never do wallpaper again. What I don't understand is it was "falling" off in some areas. My sister wants to sell her house and was told to remove all wallpaper (mostly in kitchen) and paint. They rented a steamer, luckily it's coming off nicely.

There are some wallpapers that come off in whole sheets...they are expensive and the backing is like a textured fabric almost...what a piece of cake that stuff is to work with and to take down..don't even know if they make it still.. very expensive and on the heavy side. It didn't tear either. Paste was used to adhere it to the wall.. I am talking back in the 70's.

I've picked and pulled off a lot of wallpaper, too, but I still love the stuff. Have it in three of four bedrooms, the kitchen, dining room, hallways, two bathrooms, and library. I love the stuff!

Ha-ha, Mammie -- 'self abuse'! I wanted to shoot MYself for hanging FOIL wallpaper in two bathrooms, ceilings and all, back in 1972. Fair enough, *I* was the one who had to remove it before we put the house on the market. (OK, I cheated and paid to have it done.) Then the buyer wanted our lot, not our house, and did a teardown! Got what I deserved, according to this thread.
