Opinion on powder pendants, faucets, mirror idea??
Comments (4)Thanks for your comments. The inspiration picture was for light placement. I had not noticed he mirror was backlit...but it does look very appealing that way. Hmm, will have to think about that. Correct about the color scheme, although the inspiration picture is quite nice. Sedona beige is an off white and BM White dove is a very soft ivory color. The base neutrals in the house will be a soft ivory and black for the upstairs, and soft ivory and navy downstairs. Chispa, I guess to each his own. All of my fixtures in previous house were Kohler ivory. In the current house the walls are creamy tones and the white fixtures look stark and a bit cold to me. So, for the next house, going back to ivory....See MorePowder room tile/backsplash ideas
Comments (13)I guess it depends on how much of a perfectionist you are and what your expectations are for making it "seamless". I just know that even with a professional, it is VERY difficult to match texture on walls. A while back, I hired a pro to fill in a big TV nook/alcove in my family room, so there was a big area where he had to blend in new drywall and texture with the rest of the existing wall. It was ok, but not as seamless as I expected. But... I'm a perfectionist. Thankfully it is the wall my TV and entertainment center covers a lot of, so I let it go. Honestly, you saved money texturing yourself and probably got a similar result to a pro for such a small area. I don't really have any tips for texturing walls -- I've only done small patch jobs around my house and I thought they looked really good. I did it by hand and not with a can of spray texture because the areas were so small. As for the toilet, I just can't imagine paying a bunch for something that we all use for... that purpose. That toilet has had a few problems over the years, so I have been thinking of replacing it at some point. Though I don't think I'd go for a high-end one, haha...See MorePowder Room Redo Ideas- to niche or not to niche....
Comments (9)Reviving this thread as I have purchased the Pottery Barn 30" navy vanity & brass round mirror to go above it. I'm still struggling with whether to demo the niches and hang a piece of art in each's place or to keep the niches and put shelves in. My contractor said the price would be equal for both options. It seems if I demo the niches and hang art in it's place then there really isn't a purpose as to why the walls in the room are at an angle. But, if I decide to keep the niches and put in shelves, then I'm left with what the heck to put on the shelves. Then I'm tasked with finding decorative items to fill the shelves with (I've already looked several times at HomeGoods, Target). Just want to get a vote on what everyone thinks I should do. I'm keeping the floorplan as is. Pics of the vanity, mirror, and proposed artwork (for the demo the niche option) are :...See Morepowder room ideas - refresh 60s decor
Comments (14)@JD, you bring up a good point about tile size. In one pic, it looked like a square wall tile to me but now, on closer look, it reads like a 5 x 7 which would not be original, IIRC. Not a tile expert but I do recall plenty of pics of colourfully tiled 40s bathrooms which I wouldn't describe as "modern" unless "modern" simply conveys contemporary. For anyone interested, this Old House Journal article describes bathroom styles from the 20s to 40s....See Morehiccup4
