Roses I picked yesterday.
Comments (13)Beautiful bouquet! Love the DOUBLE DELIGHTs! Yeah, I've got blooms and buds all over the place, and the rain has ruined many of them. And the irises are coming on now too.and getting pummeled. I know I shouldn't complain about it because we really NEED this rain badly, and I'm glad we're getting a bit of a snowpack up in the Sierras, but I'm sick of rain already! I guess I wouldn't object so much if we had more of a break. I hate it when we get torrential downpours that don't let up and the cold is making my body ache. Just when I was beginning to feel better. Oh well, in a few weeks we'll have tons of blooms and be happy and warm again. Just gonna have to fight the mildew and B/S afterwards tho......See MorePicked out my slabs yesterday! Pics.
Comments (3)Beautiful! Nice job on selecting awesome slabs. I think you're going to love your kitchen too :)...See MorePicked up 2 Lilacs yesterday, that I've never heard of before.
Comments (14)That's great! One of these two lilacs developed blackened leaves ALL over, I'm talking pitch black, even the little buds that had started to open had black leaves starting to emerge. It looked awful. Like it was dying right before my eyes. I have no idea what was going on with it, because i have a good success rate with these shrubs, but thankfully the other lilac is doing fantastic. The leaves are huge and a luscious green. I pulled the awful looking $8 lilac, and am replacing it with a declaration lilac, my favorite of all the lilacs. I bought 3 lilacs at Walmart a couple years ago, and they are doing incredibly well, and growing so fast, too. I wish you success with yours....See MorePicked up a Mexican Key Lime yesterday. Can I repot now?
Comments (13)The lime is only to correct lowering of Ph caused by peat mainly. I would sometimes skip the peat part entirely especially if the bark has good amount of dust. I treat it like gritty mix and use gypsum and epsom to spike the mix initially as a Ph neutral substitute for dolomitic lime. Lime is most reactive the first few hours after it is wetted. My crude measurements showed that most of the Ph change happens within the first 24 hrs. So it should be good to go. By the way, for 511 dust to 3/8inch for bark is recommended , the gritty needs 1/8 to 1/4 inch. If you are going to bare root I would not wait too much longer. If the plant is young it is more vigorous in adjusting and that buys you a little more time....See More- 6 years ago
