Usps claim

The package I received from the seller arrived damaged. When I received it, the box was torn open and the item was broken into 2 or more pieces and I was only left with one piece of the item. The other piece or pieces are missing. The post office in my city stamped stamped onto the box that it arrived open and damaged at their post office. So it's must've gotten damaged somewhere during transit. I emailed the seller and he told me that he has filed a claim with the USPS.

My question is who will the USPS send the refund to?

And the seller said that I'm also welcomed to send the item back for a full refund. But doesn't that mean I'll be out of more money just to have it shipped for a refund. And I thought you're supposed to hold onto the item in case USPS wants to look at the item wnd packaging. But when I received the item, I immediately took pictures within minutes of receiving it. And even the mail man that delivered it looked at it. Ugh.. this is the first time I have to deal with this. I just hope that it's me the USPS sends the refund to.
