It does look pretty far gone. New roots and growth shoots come from the leaf nodes, that's where to look for any signs of new life. The soil needs to be fast draining and not prone to being soggy. But it will need to have humid air around it to encourage roots. You can put it in a plastic bag and keep it in a warm (not actually hot) spot. I find with cuttings of these if you keep them in plastic and wash daily you don't get problems with fungus or rotting. Of course if it's too far gone then you won't get any growth.

Just plant shallow, try make all stem touch the soil, so if there's any living nodes, they will form root and new shoot. Keep it moist. Spray regularly. This plant is kind of abandonable plant. Dew and dust from surround able to keep them alive for long time.
