What will you do differently next year?
Comments (46)I'm going to try using the smaller water bottles in the same way I use 2 liter soda bottles to do items like tomatoes or other plants that I don't want to HOS. It can be a pain sometimes trying to separate seedlings that you don't want to sow in a hunk. This is my second year and I learned the hard way the first year that the shallow containers didn't have enough soil depth and dried out to fast. Everything has gone much better using the 2 liters and juice bottles. I only use the blind pieces as markers inside my containers and that has worked great especially since I use clear 2 liters, but I will add the date to the marker so I can more easily compare seedlings of the same type in several containers. I will continue to collect the soda bottles throughout the year and replace the clear juice bottles I used. The juice bottles worked well, but it is more difficult to get the seedlings out of them. Oh, I will also keep my jugs off the ground and sprinkle diatamaceous earth around them earlier to keep the slugs out of my containers. :-) Pam...See MoreHow do they look..and do you reccomend doing anything differently
Comments (2)Your sarrs may do good but that's too much water for vft and drosera. I would use a separate tray or lower the water level. An inch or less should do. Personally I only keep about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of water and leave the tray dry for a day or two between watering to keep mosquitos to a minimum....See MoreDo you do anything for good luck for the new year?
Comments (10)I do make New Year's Resolutions, and I really try hard to stick to them. My resolutions last year included trying to fix many of the things that were broken (health-wise) with my poor ol' body. I tackled the sleep apnea first and now have a CPAP machine that helps tremendously. Then I tackled the bad foot problems, and things pretty much stopped right there! More than five months later, I'm still not fully healed, so the rest of that particular resolution has gone to heck in a handbasket! And I absolutely do have hawg jowl and black-eyed peas, or Hoppin' John, for New Year's dinner. It's been a family tradition for my whole life. I don't know that it's brought me any luck, but having a pork roast in the oven and beans simmering on the stove makes the house smell like January 1 to me, every year. I'm thinking up my resolutions for this year as I type. It's always seemed like a good time to take stock of what I've done right or wrong the previous year, and to resolve to do a better job in the new one. Comments (5)I also tried a mix of cherry tomatoes and it sold very well. People loved them and kept coming back for more. I had Black Cherry, IsIs Candy, and Dr. Carolyn. The Black Cherry is a for sure for next year and I will probably grow the others also. I also plan to grow some other different ones to add to the mix. Was planning on trying the yellow, red, and black pear tomatoes next year for a mix. I think people would really like those too. People always love our colored peppers, and were especially crazy about our purple ones (Islander from Johnnys). The purple ones sold out every week, and is another thing people just kept coming back for. I plan to grow those next year and add another purple variety also (different shade of purple). I also grew one type of green sweet pepper and people loved that also. I plan to grow other types of sweet peppers next year. I grew Bush Baby Zucchini (from Johnnys) and that seemed to do pretty well. DidnÂt grow too many of them since it was just a trial, but next year I plan to grow more of them. In the spring our salad mixes did really really well. We did not plant any fall lettuces and greens though because we have big plans for the area we plant them in and are going to be working on putting up a hoophouse, and rearranging everything. No one else at our market sells lettuce and greens which is why I think they sell so well for us. Well those were some of my biggest successes and I will have to post again about what some of my failures were....See Moreerasmus_gw
