Back splash help

We just did our kitchen, new cherry cabinets, stainless appliances and a beautiful granite countertop.

We were hoping the existing back splash would go but it doesn't and I am having a difficult time trying to find a backsplash that blends with everything.We have two back splash tiles that we are considering. The white one is mother of pearl and the other one is beautiful, just not sure, if it is too busy. Would appreciate any feedback.

can the 4" splash be removed? any of these tiles will look horrible placed on top of that.

your counter is called fantasy brown. plenty of options. here are yours. I like the first one, but others will prob say it's too busy.

the second one is too busy w/too many colors. if it was one solid color, it would work.

i don't like picking a gray subway tile because of your warm cherry cabinets, so the other options would be an off white subway.

this is actually a silver, 3x8, which looks ok as opposed to a dove gray.

tried to find some finished kitchens w/your countertop so you can see some options (notice that they don't have the 4" piece)

Forgive me! I am soooooo tired of repeating myself. :) You chose the star of the show, in your counter tops, you've got deep toned cabinets . Go to a local tile shop and collect a few SIMPLE AND PLAIN soft white subway tiles, . Test on site. It's all you need. Have the fabricator get the 4 inch splash off for you. soon. And before you tile.

Try a 2 x 10 ish!! if you want to order a sample, a great one below. It's a total no fail in one of two or three whites. And NOT expensive : )

Pretty tile. Are your shelves extending to the edge of the countertop? The question most frequently asked is: do you end the tile at the cabinets (shelves, in your case) or at the countertop? Is that a closed door to the right of the outlet? Is the outlet a light switch? I would think it would look odd to go to the floor unless you also went to the ceiling.

OK, I don't like the tile I posted and wish I'd been more precise. You're not going to go wrong with white subway, but if you wanted permission to walk a little bit on the wilder side, I think your kitchen could pull it off. What I was trying to suggest was a shape idea, like this perhaps. I disagree about using a traditionally laid herringbone accent, especially with a thick border. I would think it was too stodgy if this were my little kitchen, (except maybe the sideways pattern in eam's first two examples.) If you want an accent and use subway, you could also consider a stack or a chevron pattern. Here they use that pattern for the whole backsplash. Or do the BS in matte tile and the accent tile in a gloss finish. Or lean a large, funky handmade ceramic plate behind your range and support a starving artist. Your kitchen is darling. You didn't ask but I'd paint the stools. I'm just full of good ideas for your time and money, aren't I?

I disagree about the gray tile. A light gray glass subway tile might work nicely. You already have white cabinets everywhere so it won't "dull it down". Get samples to make sure they work with the slab you've chosen: The more elongated version would make it a bit more contemporary; and the traditional 3 x 6 more traditional.

I agree with everyone else. Remove the 4 inch stone backsplash, and use a simple, solid color backsplash to let it be the star.

In my new house I have the same backsplash on top of the 4 inch counter back splash (which is on my list of projects), but your new counter tops are far lovelier than mine, what a nice choice. I love that off white glass tile Beth posted.
